Rampart in Ottawa has an online store. I bought my Mystery Ranch pack a few months ago through them it was like 40% off, Keep an eye out for some sales. Personally the mystery ranch pack I bought is the best pack I’ve put on my back, slightly heavier than other packs but it’s a lot more durable especially if you’re hunting thick bush.

Mystery Ranch, Kifaru and Stone Glacier are all good, you really need to try them on, to see what feels best for you. Get a pack with a meat shelf. I got a MR Metcalf size medium, I'm 5'7" slim build and it fits perfect. These packs are adjustable for length.

The Kelty Trekker is the old standby and I see they're making them again. Not great for very steep slopes where you have to crane your neck backwards all the time, but the best for carrying weight over long distances. They're very strong and reliable, and yet are the most lightweight design I've seen yet. They used to be almost inobtainium in Canada, don't know what their availability would be in the southern hemisphere.

Hey,

Love my Optics Hunter, here is a quick once over I did awhile back on here: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1105935-Just-got-my-new-Optics-Hunter-Bag-figured-start-a-review

Have recently picked up the Stone Glacier 6900 and the EVO 3300 from Precision optics (Canadian site). Still putting them through the paces, been impressed so far. Though When I want a true external I still pick up my Optics Hunter.

They have changed the name, and add some features. Yes they are a US company, but I had zero issue ordering and they have been great to me. No duty as they are made in the US of A, but you still do taxes at the door like you would from any Canadian retailer.

thanks fellas, do you guys see many of the like pop up on classifieds or fakebook pages for better prices with people upgrading an what not?

someone said down here to hold off if i can as soon there will be some K3 packs available and some will sell off their K2 packs to upgrade? so that might be an option.

il have togo an try a few on and with weight maybe! :(

Keep your eye on the hunting Gear section, there is always someone selling something either to buy a new model or it doesn’t fit properly.

they are very happy with them and say that is the way to go.

Whealand, what are you planning on doing, with said pack, reason I ask is that North American packs, verse say NZ packs. The concepts are very different,

Most but not all, of the American packs are great for load, but have many pockets, straps and buckles that can snag, if your in thick scrubby bush, jungle, especially with lots vines. On the whole, the NA forests are more open.
I just ordered a smaller Kuiu, for this season in Canada.

Verse the NZ style packs, that are very clean, with normally, only a back pocket, and low slung shoulder hight, for walking under overhead obstacles. NZ bush is on the whole more dense and thick, with less open travel, same as costal Australia.
Ive had a K-2, From Antarctic products in Nelson, for 20 years, mine was a custom request, and is very similar to their Expedition, The Mac pack, Cascade 80l, is likely, the most sort after hunting/ tramping, pack in NZ,

Ive had a couple frame packs, K2 hunter,& mountain mule, and despite the load Carring capability, they are a pain in the ass, and will snag way more in thick cover, than a clean internal frame pack.
