Which is the right 457 22lr to put into a MDT chassis for precision rimfire?

So many models, hard to keep track, and availability is spotty. Considering I would be immediately tossing aside the factory stock and putting it into a MDT chassis, which is the right model to start with? I would want 18-22" barrel length, preferably no iron sights, it's going to need pic rail for scope though that might take aftermarket, preferably heavy barrel contour. Definitely not 16" length, maybe 24" if there was no way to avoid it.

Bonus points if the correct answer is in stock and at a sale price in Canada right now.
 
Velocity loss between 16 and 24" is minimal at best and often times 16" barrels can be as fast or slightly faster than 24" barrels.
I thought the stocks were the main difference in the line up then barrel contour and length? You will enjoy the mdt chassis. Theyre great

My main concern with a 16" is that the balance will be too far back, so the gun won't balance well on barricades. To some extent I can throw MDT MLOK weights on the fore-end but would prefer just having a longer barrel. Or if the 16" was threaded I could throw a muzzle break on there for extra front weight.
 
The most important thing with a rifle is that it balances well. The 20" barrel is not a long barrel by any stretch. Many 16" barrelled rifles are designed for use with silencers and have threaded muzzles. A rifle with a full length barrel and a silencer can be too long to be easily used for hunting in thickly wooded or brushy areas or when used out of vehicles when "lamping" in the UK, practices which are contrary to the law here but apparently legal over there.
 
The 16 inch does have a threaded barrel, I didn’t think mdt had a chassis for the 457 as of yet. It is a bit heave to the rear but scope basically negates that. If you are doing precision rifle I would get the mtr and leave it stock, better barrel real comfy stock

Here's my evaluation of the MTR stock:
Non-adjustable cheek.
Non-adjustable LOP.
Non-adjustable / swappable grip.
No way to mount full length ARCA rail to bottom of fore-end. (I might be wrong on this point, but even if it exists I'm expecting price over $170.)
Paying hundreds of dollars for a stock that is going to get destroyed by the precision rifle props.

Looking at the CZ website, I'm seeing that the 457 Varmint is 20" and heavy barrel with a basic stock and all the other features as I desire. So seems like that would be my choice. Now I just need to find one on sale, in stock, in Canada, with pic rail and 2pcs 10round magazines.

I will be getting a MDT system for my 16" barrel 457 MTR: LSS-RF Chassis System, MDT Pistol Grip, 102254-BLK and MDT Skeleton Rifle Stock (Short).

The 16" barrel is nice and compact and the velocity from my 16" barrel has yielded at or above the the FPS listed. As the barrel length gets longer the velocity drops. The 16" comes thread so if I decided to add a muzzle brake it won't make the rifle overly long.

I've contacted Boyd and Wolverine inquiring about replacement stocks, a CZ Pro Varmint stock is not available and the CZ Varmint will cost over $500. Boyds Pro Varmint stock is not the same as the CZ version so forget that option plus it probably doesn't have pillars.

Mine thoughts on the MTR stock is it's just good for bench rest shooting. Can't lug it around for long and the grip does not feel comfortable in my hands.

Check the barrel specs, completely different specs, no need for aftermarket barrel like the 455 suffered. Stock can be sold and you are left with a better barrel. No it isn’t the greatest stock for prs, but the barrel upgrade is worth the purchase price. If your heart is set on an mdt chassis buy the cheapest one you can find just keep in mind the cz threading is 1/2 by 20 on the short barrels good luck finding a brake as nobody does this thread. Definitely advise the 20 inch as you are looking for

I have a savage fv in the mdt chassis and it balances mych forward of the mag. I do have a large scope on it to and i believe the barrel is around 21"
I also have a rem 783 in 223 in a mdt chassis with a hb in 16.5" and it balances better between the hands with a 3-9×50 ultra hd legend scope and full mag. I like a little forward weight for off hand shooting.

Buy the 20" you can always cut it to 18.5" later
 
Only complaint with my MTR so far is the short LOP. Would be nice to have spacers like the KRG and Magpul stocks.
Cheek weld is perfect for me with my rail/rings/scope setup (area 419 rail, low Vortex pro rings, 6-24 diamondback ffp). Grip feels fine so far, will see if I still like it after an extended range session.
Area 419 has a picture on their insta of a MTR with one of their full length universal arca rails mounted. They make spacers for the action screw end, to make their rails work with stocks that aren't perfectly flat, but I think a longer front action screw will be needed. I need to email them to see what spacer and bolt length they used and put an order through Tom.

That is my take right now also. I want the longer front end of the ACC and the fancy ambi adjustable stock that I see on the ACC. The mini chassis isn't what I would want. It's enough that I would instead go T1X to fit the ACC.
