Which rifle should I get..?

22 cals are legal for deer in BC so I'd go with the 22-250 and for deer load a good 60 gr bullet,..not sure if you can get a factory load that heavy but the 14" twist of most 22-250's will stabilize a 60gr bullet,..all mine have.

A 22-250 is overkill for most gopher shooting IMHO but they will certainly launch the little critters.

All compromises but that's the way it is with one rifle for deer and varmints....If you lived in Alberta you'd have to go 243 or 6mm....and that's a lot of gopher medicine....back when I had few rifles and even less $$ I shot two seasons of gophers with an old BDL Varmint in 243 but I'd have rather had a 22-250 or a 223.....

Thanks guys, especially those who recommended the gun and scope to me on CGN, you are all very helpful! :)

Now the coins will go into accessories. First up, a Limbsaver recoil pad, because I'm a noob for recoil, I'll admit it any day :D

A sweet sling would also do nicely. Other than that, I can't think of anything else..? Time to throw some suggestions in again, fellow gun nutz!

Butlercreek caps
Limbsaver recoil pad
bedding job....

Stony Point shooting stix ;)

the more I shoot my .308, the more I love it. you're on your way :D

Definitely Limbsaver, my limbs need saving :D If that ain't enough for recoil reducing, I might look into this: does anyone have any experience with this product?

http://www.limbsaver.com/Products/Firearms/Barrel_De_Resonator.aspx

Last resort: muzzle brake FTW, piss off the others at the range

Those Butler Creek caps look pretty snazzy. Were you talking about these?

I think bedding is a long-term project, as for Shooting Stix, I'll go the poor man's way and shoot off-hand/sitting/kneeling

muzzle break? on a .308win? please tell me you're joking. unless that rifle weighs 2lbs, there is no need.

get a good recoil pad and have someone check your form.

yup, those are the caps, they are a great addition to any scope, very practical.

the barrel deresonator does nothing for recoil. looks goofy.

I think the usage of  makes the muzzle brake a joke, doesn't it? :D I gotta say, I don't appreciate it too much when others on the range use it, WAY too loud... for my Savage it would be impractical to mount one anyway.

Ahh.. so the barrel thingie does nothing, saved myself 20 bucks.

................... then some day down the road, you need to rip the bbl off it and change it into a .358Win, in true gunnut style. ;)
.

When that day comes I'd have gotten myself another rifle or two :D

stay clear of the muzzle break. with proper form, and a recoil pad you will soon get used to the shove from a .308. I had a BOSS equiped winchester in 7mm rem mag.... geebus that rifle was LOUD and evrytime at the range.... i fired a shot and the range went silent..... i got that what the hell are you shooting boy? look from guys. was kinda funny. The Boss system isn't a regular muzzle break and does have it's uses but what those types of things tend to do is lessen recoil slightly, BUT they direct muzzle blast back and away... your left ear... if unprotected during a hunting situation will stand a VERY HIGH RISK of hearing damage.... like mine  .... there's not sufficient gain in recoil reduction in a .308 caliber for a break to be worth it.... now in a 338.... with earplugs sure :D
BTW... sweet rig you got there... a solid choice... enjoy her

Solid advice on the muzzle brake, 45ACPKING. :) The last thing I want is hearing damage...

Gonna get myself the recoil pad this afternoon and some other accessories, then will post a new pic afterwards.

Looks good RP, well done. I put Limbsavers on all my guns now. Also the caps are a good idea. Next time your shooting, try wearing earplugs and the headphone-style hearing protectors as well. The noise is drastically reduced and the recoil will seem less too.

Also, make sure your barrel doesn't touch that front sandbag when you're shooting.;)

HEY!!!!! I resemble that remark:D Nice choice rishu, just snuggle up to that gun and you will soon love the feeling of it pushing you back in encouragement. Just think of it as the rifle's way of saying MORE, Shoot me MORE!!!
(or if you dont like it, get yourself a lead sled, super rest for recoil reduction. I put 10 rounds through my 338 and 40 through my 358 yesterday and i can still reach up in comfort, lol.)

I installed the Limbsaver today, they look pretty snug and feels soft against my shoulder; I'll take them out to the range on Tuesday to see if it was worth the 45 bucks :D

Caps will be the next purchase, and yes, I do wear headphone protector and/or earplugs, I value my hearing as much as the next guy.

Why should the bbl not touch the front sandbag..?

Yes... "shoot me more", the rifle always seem to say that to me when I open up the case (which is like everyday, I always show my friends and family, as they are curious and I'm happy to oblige :D)!

The sandbag applies upward pressure to the bbl causing it to shoot to a different POI than if the gun was resting on the forearm (which is how it is supported when fired in the field).

.

Ahh I see, that makes sense. I'll try that at the range, no wonder my groups were terrible last time (the first time ever...). :D
