Transport Question

New shooter/owner here and have a question about trnasporting to the range. Is it ok to put multiple pistols in a single case or do they each require their own? I'm assuming all in one case as long as each has a trigger lock etc and the case is then locked is ok. But wanted to doule check among the collective experience here.

Thanks. I was thinking of checking Princess Auto. I have a case I can use for now but want to return it to it's orginal use eventually (holding a go-pro and dive housing). I am also looking at some on Amazon too as there are good deals there too. Why can't the cases the pistols come in be deep enough to accommodate a trigger lock? So inconvenient.

Why not change the trigger lock mechanism to work with the case?

Foam is easy to cut. I use low profile locks

I just use a double scoped rifle case and fill it. You can also put in an extra layer of foam and double stacking to increase the amount you can put in. Careful though, it gets pretty heavy once you get over a dozen in. - dan

I had already bought a few trigger locks on sale at Princess Auto. Didn't realize I might prefer low profile ones for the pistols. So it's probably easier to get a new case and then I can take a few to the range more easily anyhow.

Cambodian Tire puts these on at 50% off a couple times a year. Plus they sell picked foam for inserting into other cases.

Note you may need to drill out the lock hole a bit - depends what kind of locks you use. I like combi locks so had to open up the hole a bit on the medium sized CT unit.

I use soft cases, and fill it up till it gets heavy.
I built some Hi End keys for those hi-end $1.50 screw trigger locks, LOL
A old screw driver , split with a little cut wheel, and a bit of heat and bend the prongs to fit the holes
Some guys cut a slot and insert the "key" in and a bit of spot weld.
The problem with those plastic locks id the stupid little key, other than that they work O.K. and don't take up any room like a real lock.

Having a teenage kid in the house (who brings friends over), I want maximum security so I prefer a combo trigger lock instead of those screw type ones. Even a keyed trigger lock feels less secure because it's easier to find/get hold of a key than figure out the combination. I like the three layers of security with a trigger lock, pistol in a locked case whcih is then inside a locked cabinet. Maybe a bit extra cautious but I'd prefer to err on the side of caution than have something unfortunate happen. Best solution is a new case I've seen those Plano deeper 4 gun cases for $38 so may go that route.

My buddy in the states uses a 50 cal ammo can that be lines with foam cuts his own he also told me you was a 30 cal ammo can

You realize there are only 999 combinations right? A teenager could start at 000 and get to 999 in about 10 min. I work at an airport and the combo padlocks get found left laying in the airplane pits all the time when they get torn off bags. 10,000 combinations with a 4 digit lock. I doubt my kid has the patience for that even if she could get into the cabinet to begin with. Then there's the 3 digit trigger lock on top of that.
