Has the 5 round magazine limit, when hunting with a centre fire rifle, been discarded in Saskatchewan?

I no longer seem able to find anything about big game mag limits in the Hunting Regulations .

Was there ever? The regulations currently in force, while amended in various respects over the years, were enacted in 1981.

I distinctly remember it being there. I’m paraphrasing but it said “ It is unlawful to hunt big game with a centre fire rifle capable of holding more than 5 rounds in the magazine.”

With the ridiculous changes they have made, who knows what is in the regulations. By the way if your not happy about no big game or bird guide being available phone your MLA and raise hell. I let Jim Reiters office know I wasn't happy. Office girl said to let them know or things will stay the same.

I had a look, and there doesn't appear to have been any relevant amendments to the regulations - and more specifically, the portions regarding permitted firearms and ammunition - in the past 20 years.

Maybe you remember someone telling you what was not allowed.

I was told that anything smaller than .243 was illegal for big game in Ontario and you were not allowed to have more than 5rds in the magazine in Ontario, both total BS.

I started hunting in Sask., like many others, in the 1960's - 11 rounds in a MacLeod's Hardware 303 British Lee Enfield "sporter". I do not believe I ever heard or read that it was a problem, then or since. (other than the unnecessary weight!!!)

I started hunting in Saskatchewan in 1972, and there was no such regulation then. The surplus 303 rifles were one of the most common rifles used, and they had 10 round magazines.

There is no magazine limit for centrefire rifles in Saskatchewan other than for semi-auto rifles which falls under federal limits. I've been hunting here for the last 20 years and it has never been a rule. As previously mentioned, there are plenty of old 303 surplus rifles with >5 round magazine capacities that are still used for hunting.

The mag limit has nothing to do with the big game regs - Mag limit is mandated by the Canadian Firearms program which states a 5 round limit for centerfire semi auto rifles.

You can have an 100 round drum mag for your bolt action repeater if you want to carry it.

Stop looking under rocks for problems - We have enough firearms issues without inventing more.

I did not mean to create any kind of hysteria right here

I do believe many of us are quite well aware of the federal vs provincial hunting regulations and many exceptions.
Thank you.

Have a nice day now.....
