I have spent a week finding out to my chagrin that mounting my Strikefire on my Sub2K has not worked, I tried mounting the Optic on the top rail of the gun. I tightened it down as tight as I dare and the Optic will not hold zero. There is enough flex in the mount that to date zeroing is not happening. The rail is made of polymer and flexs enough to allow the sight to move its POI. If anyone has successfully mounted their Optic on the rail I would like to hear from them.

I am not sure I want to spend much more on the gun. any suggestions.

I may have to be satisfied with a new set of irons and call it a day.

When I had my gen2 i sanded off (smoothed our) the ridges in the middle of the top rail. it held zero but didn’t fold. So I bought an mlok 45 degree 1913 rail and with a vortex razor red dot it folded and it too held zero.

Every time I took I out to range I would come back with ammo as a few rounds through that unit it feels like my wife was slapping my face.

I take it the sanding of the rail flat was the answer. I have a removable mount coming but I think I will look at a couple of Mlok ideas. Red Lion as a Mlok rail arrangement that does not involve the top rail but does allow the gun to fold. The issue their is I would need another mount for the sight.

I'll try sanding down the rail first to see if that helps. Thanks for the reply.

I went out today and got the gun zeroed using 125 gr BDX FMJ bullet loaded with 5gr of CFE Pistol. I tried my lead Lyman 356402 bullets over 3.9gr 0f D700 and the bullets stayed on an 8.5x11 paper with 7 out of ten falling in a six inch circle at 25 yards. My gun doesn't apparently like that load. I may try 4.1gr of 231 which is one of my go to loads using that bullet and see if things improve. I don;t intend to use it with lead bullets anyway so nothing lost. I have the Ruger PCC and CX4 Storm that love both bullets

I took your advice and smoothed down the top of the rail. I also get a take off mount in the mail so the cantilever mount that came with the Strikefire red/green dot is mounted higher but attached to a metal rail. I actually can use my irons through a gap in the new mount. while the Optic sits higher and is perfect for using the sight. I don;t need the wife slap you mentioned. Thanks for the tip. We shall see if the zero holds.

Yeah, I feel like I was punched in the face after an outing with the S2K.

I bought mine to use as a cheap fun gun and truck gun so I picked up a very cheap red dot with riser mount. The mount uses a QD rail clamp and the whole thing cost me around $25. That thing clamps on tight and holds zero like you wouldn’t believe! And with the riser it brings your cheek up some and I find I don’t get that “WHAM! F YOUR FACE” and I regularly put 3-400 rounds through it at a time. With the QD I take it off, fold the rifle and then re attach to bottom rail and it stays small. Maybe try a small riser with QD mount and screw it down so it locks tight.

If you were in Toronto I would lend you a 45 mount to try. Using irons you have to lower your head so much to get sighted in. I like the idea of the rifle but for range shooting I rather used my 9mm in my PPQ SF.

I upgraded mine with mcarbo. They just had a 20% sale for 9-11. Their trigger makes all the difference. Fat charging handle is awesome too. Now they designed a rubber butt stock thingy. I bought a rubber butt stock slip on from amazon.ca and it was best $40 I spent. Adds an inch or two to the length of pull but you can adjust the butt stock to compensate.

I put the MCarbo brake on my Sub2K and I think it made a bit of difference. I am sticking with the CX4 Storm for IDPA PCC shooting. 10 rds in a relatively short package works well when shooting around walls and stuff. The trigger is not up to much but I never notice it once the buzzer goes off. For it and the Ruger PCC I think the brake would be a waste of money.

M-Carbo makes an awesome optic mount for the Sub 2000.

Be sure to check it out.

I have been looking at it. A bit pricey but it works.

Right now I am not concerned about folding the gun. I have a busy week coming up then I intend to spend some time deciding what role I want the gun to play. I drilled out the rear peep sigt to 13/64" . This give me a wider view through the peep, while giving up some potential accuracy. If it works well enough out to 50 yards I may just drop the Optic and settle on the irons. The gun in my hands is just an advanced plinker capable at short ranges which is what I need for a truck gun. As a friend of mine said, "It beats a tire iron".

My go-to option for the Sub-2000 is to use a QD rail and then high rings on top of that rail; adds a bit of weight to the firearm but allows for a solid easy-on & easy-off scoping "solution"... :yingyang:
