Need a AR15 barrel that is good for 20K

Who sells a AR15 barrel that keeps 2 MOA for 20K rounds in Canada?

I'm actually replacing a NEA barrel that went 10 K rounds, but eventually the extension blew off.:)

Looking for a thick barrel with long life

Honestly, my buddy had his Norinco barrel go an obscene number of rounds (most people don't believe me so I stopped saying the number lol) before it started key holing.....but it was never shot at more than 10-15 yards.

The S&J that replaced it (which was more over gassed new than the Nork was after it was worn out) didn't make it to 5000 before key holing at the same distance.

My other buddy has a stag that has so many rounds through it and is so over gassed, that I'm baffled that it doesn't key hole or have more problems.

Hard to give a good answer though......I'd suggest Daniel Defence....maybe Colt Canada....but you're going to be paying a premium for something that a) might not keep that accuracy goal depending on how it's shot and with what ammo, b) might be too fancy/expensive for the job you're using it for.

Colt Canada would be my choice for a barrel. I remember reading that they apply a thicker layer for chrome lining to help with wear&tear resistance.

We have a few C7/C8 wih high round count, 20k and above not counting blanks, who produce 2moa grouping@100m with an half decent shooter behind the gun.

This^^^ but it will cost you though. And be careful, just because it saids Colt on it, it might not be chromed lined. Colt has lower grade barrels that are treated but not chrome lined. Many companies are not doing chrome lined mainly because of cost first and accuracy second. But the accuracy variant vs the service life is so minimal that in a service barrel the issue is really a moot point. This is why the c7/8 uses chrome lined barrels. I use to service the C7s and I've seen barrels upwards of 30k rounds.

The only other chrome lined barrel that pops into me head are the moment are the Norincos and that is because they are inexpensive which deffinately leave an impression. $100 Canadian Ammo vs $500 to $800 maybe more? Here is some redneck math. Buy a $500 chrome lined barrel and it lasts 30k rounds. Now lets say a Norinco barrel lasts 20k rounds... Now buy five of those barrels for the cost of one expensive barrel. 20,000 x 5 will give you 75,000 rounds.lol Just kidding, I can really do math but let me get back to you with the answer after I find my calculator.

Daniel Defense are excellent quality barrels, the S2W barrels are nice and accurate and they are Mil-b-11595e (military spec for M249 barrel) with a nitride finish, so they can be extremely accurate, and long lasting.

You could also go with an FN barrel despite being chrome lined the FN barrels are generally known to be good enough for DMR barrels. With that said any time you put chrome on something there can be potential accuracy loss, I think FN is probably the best at getting the accuracy out of them.

My question was related towards a statement that some places use barrels with up to 100k rounds thru it. No matters who makes them, i highly doubt they are anything else than rental bullet hose when it comes to accuracy.

No, that's a big finger little phone typo. 30K would be impressive! Meant to be 10K, maybe a bit more. The accuracy was still fine, (could hit 4" gong at 100M with Fed bulk ammo and a decent shooter) it's just the barrel extension pulled off. But that does lead to your and others question of high end barrels. Geralds red neck math is something to think about too.

NEA doesn't use chrome lines barrels, chrome can be mildly detrimental to accuracy I understand- maybe 2 non chromed barrels that gets swapped at 10K rounds makes more sense than 1 expensive chrome lined? Then you have a fresh barrel at 10K rather than a half worn out one? Thanks for the comments guys.

PS It's been years since I've been to a Vegas range but my buddy went to Battlefield Vegas a couple of years ago and asked the RO about accuracy with the rifles. The RO just laughed and pretty much said they were indeed shot out bullet hoses. :)

Dont know why I'm being questionned about NEA barrel when my suggestion was Colt barrel in post #3. In fact, I would never recommand anything made by NEA, based on first hand experience with their "made in canada" sub quality firearms.
 
Look for a quality barrel with Nitride treatment.
Nitriding makes the surface harder than chrome and since it's also thinner it is more consistent so if the barrel is made right it should be accurate a long time.

I had a PWS AR which is factory nitrided and I asked the guys at PWS what they expected for barrel life and I was told to expect approximately 20k through it before any noticeable loss of accuracy.

This is all dependent on how you treat it as well, if you do slow controlled aimed shots it will last a lot longer than if you're doing mag dumps.

Any chrome lined or nitrided barrel should make it 20k if you treat it well but accuracy will be heavily dependent on ammo quality. If you want to shoot American Eagle 55gr you may not find any barrel that will shoot 2 moa consistently from day one.

Considering how cheap barrels are and that we only get semi auto and 10 rounds I don't worry much about barrel life. If it wears out before I sell it I just buy a new one. My advice is to just buy whatever fits your budget and has a few good reports from other owners on accuracy.
Be careful when reading other guys reports though, seems like a lot of guys think that one fluke 1 moa group out of a days shooting qualifies as calling it a 1 moa capable rifle/barrel.

Just for interest sake here is a pic of the barrel. As you can see in the pic, the end of the extension is broken. The insert that pulled out also has a chunk out of it and it's cracked. The rifling is still good looking, like I said, it was still an accurate barrel. If I had the ability to install a new extension I would just do that. NEA isn't chrome lined, but the barrels don't seem to wear out fast or anything.

I would suggest that the more practical path to achieving this goal is to flip the parameters a bit. Buy three barrels that can do 7k rounds at 2MOA each for the same budget.

Did NEA have anything to do with making parts for the Boeing 737 Max?
