AR10 vs AR15

AR10s can be found in Non-Restricted, Restricted and Prohibited variations. Most modern AR10s are variants of the AR15, thus are restricted. The newest crop of Stag 10, BCL and Troy 102s are variants of the original AR10 which predates the AR15 and are not named restricted or prohibited, thus they can be either NR or Restricted based on barrel length.

Actually AR10s are restricted no matter the barrel length. The current crop of NR rifles are based of the AR102 design.

wait a sec, I'm sure that some very few "ar10" models are indeed NR.. something about a dutch version or whatnot. There are probably less of these in canada then actual g36's...

Dang now I have to find one.. might be smoking dope though.. really not sure

to my knowledge both the ar10 and ar15 are restricted. there are new variants that are nr, but they are not true ar's.
the nr versions hold no interest for me, zero. i wish the ar platform was nr, but it is what it is, welcome to banada.

No thats not right.

The ar10 is not on the restricted list. The ar15 and variants of the ar15 are named as restricted. So a 308 caliber rifle based on the ar15 frame ÌS restricted because it's a variant of the ar15. But a 308 rifle that is not based on the ar15 is not a variant and not restricted.

The liberals didnt intend to leave ar10 as NR, but they screwed it up because they are basically idiots then and now.

the ar15 is based on the ar10, both are restricted.

Something else worth considering, while the term “AR15” is typically blanketed to describe all “ar15’s” the same cannot be said for the AR10.

A large frame 308 “AR” does not an AR10 make. Atleast to the best of recollection.

Really? I've read the regulations quite thoroughly and never saw mention of AR10 being restricted, although the AR15 certainly is.

But if AR10s are named as restricted then why is a stag 10 not restricted? Please explain. :)

Then why is a stag 10 not restricted? :)

It's good to know what you're talking about before you talk.

stag bcl is not an ar10, hence unrestricted. geezus.

armalite, dpms, rockriver, buy one of their ar10's and throw it in your trunk, lets see how that works out for you.
variants be damned, we're talking about ar10's.

BS. Those 308 rifles you have named are AR10 in name only and are based on the AR15 receiver. THEY ARE RESTRICTED because the RCMP has decided they are they are AR15 VARIANTS, because the receiver/frame dimensions are very similar to the AR15 and not to the original/real AR10 rifle. Call them whatever the fk you like but they're not based on the original 1950s Armalite AR10 design.

The stag 10, BCL102 and Troy are not classed as AR15 variants based on the dimensions of the receivers, which are based on the original 1950s AR10 dimensions more than smaller AR15. Those are facts as represented by the RCMP firearms identification lab based on their interpretation of the law as it is written. Argue with them if you don't agree.

It doesn't actually matter because after Trudeau wins the next election they are all going to be prohibited anyway.

If you really want to understand, You have to drink at least 2 litres of soy per day and start watching John Oliver.

yes, I know these are variants of armalite. they are still ar10 variants. they are restricted. as are ar15's.
there are Canadian ar10's and ar15's that are not restricted, this makes so much sense. they are not true ar's imo.

shoot what you like to shoot. me, if I want a ar10 or an ar15, I have no problem with the paper work associated.

It has nothing to do with the paperwork for most people, it's about being allowed to use it away from a certified range. I like shooting at home, it's why I've sold most of my restricted rifles. Being limited to the range is not an option for me.

The current NR options are not AR's, they look like AR's and share lots of parts but the receivers are not compatible with the true AR's (what the lab considers AR's anyway) which is how they avoid the restricted classification, this applies to both the -10's and -15's.

As has been said already, if Turd gets back in it won't matter any more because every magazine fed semi auto will be prohibited. And don't go thinking that's a good thing as being grandfathered will open up opportunity to own other cool stuff. You won't be allowed to buy anything other than what you already own. It's just a trick so we don't fight as hard until the classification goes through, stage 2 is to stop granting ATT's.
