Hey all,
Thinking about picking up a skeet gun. Looking for an under $1000, over-under, 28" barrel shotgun and these two stand out.

Who has experience with these, which one do you prefer, and are there other options you would suggest as opposed to these two shotguns?

Thanks!

How much skeet do you intend to shoot every year? For a couple of thousand rounds per year, either should last a long time, but for high volume shooting, I would look for a used Citori or Beretta. The cost will be higher, but over many thousands of rounds, the Citori or Beretta will stand up, and will hold their value better.

Had a CZ Redhed that has seen thousands of rounds without a problem. Cost is a bit more but its an excellent shotgun. Sold it to a friend and he loves it.

Honestly, not a ton... at least not to start. I'm just getting into it, and am not looking to break the bank.

So take the advice you asked for and buy a used B gun. Easy to find one between $1000 and $1500 and you can find that money. Because you won't be throwing it away in a few years when you either sell because you aren't really shooting skeet much or because you don't have to get it repaired or buy something else.

This question gets asked at least once a month. And the overwhelming response is "Get a B gun". And this advice is coming from experienced and knowledgeable people. I never understand why people ask for advice and then argue against the advice they have received.

For occasional skeet theyll do well. For high volume they wont last as long as a browning or beretta.
Figure the cost in ammo for high volume shooting and a new beretta doesnt cost all that much in the scheme of things.

Churchill is another make for about a grand that seem to hold up well for occassional skeet

First off I didn't argue. I was asked questions and answered them.

I'm not going to spend 50% more than I stated in my post. I'm looking for a <$1000 shotgun not a $1500ish shotgun because it's better. Maybe you should read the post before replying and getting your panties in a bunch.

I'm open to looking at Beretta, Benelli and Browning if I can find one for <$1000, if not the point is moot because it doesn't fit my budget. Getting a $5000 gun for $2000 is a great deal, but if you can't afford it or aren't willing to spend the money it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the advice! I'll check out Churchill as well as Browning and Beretta.

Fit, Fit, Fit.
If it doesn't fit it is no bargain shotgun.
Try before you buy, if at all possible.

This is also a great point. Maybe I'll start at the range and just see what feels good first.

Lol. You asked for other options. A $1000 B gun is an option. Perhaps if you had read as many of these threads as I have you’d understand.

You get what you pay for 1000$ for a o/u is low end entry level gun . It does not matter if it’s Churchill or cz or hugula they are cheap guns . If that is what you want to spend then buy it and shoot it when it fails and it will you will be stuck with trying to get it repaired .in the 70”s and 80”s it was the lanbar shotguns and still the king of inferior shotguns Storger

At a budget of 1k I honestly think you'd be better served by a quality semi over a cheap O/U. Plenty of 1100's or Winchester around that will perform for you.

Any advantage to a o/u over a semi? I do like semi's....

A Rem 1100, eh? Can probably find one of those for a decent price.

For Skeet do you guys prefer 12ga or 20ga?

1100s used to be very popular in skeet, other than replacing o-rings, they generally are fairly durable.

You may find a nice older "B" gun at your local club for what yer budgitt is.
Wouldn't hert to try some out as most shewters are most accomodayt'in.

I took the B gun advice a few years ago and bought a used 30" Citori with factory tubes. Cost me $1K. That was good advice. :)

I doubt one could buy a new turkish gun for $1K and get 60% out of it after a few years.

The biggest problem was resale of the CZ. I had a ring neck sxs, I liked it. Little interest in a lightly use cz. Long time than a large lost. B guns are always desirable for a reason, and resale well.

Fixed choke skeet B guns can be easily had for less than 1K$. They are not popular in the current market, due to the fixed chokes and the short barrels, typically 26 inches.
