Did a little non scientific testing today at the range with lpel with this falls hunting candidates. We used milk jugs filled with water backed by a phone book at 40yds. First up a 7mm-08 with 139gr Interbond, exited the 4th jug, hit the phone book and was found on the ground. Next was a .303 Br in Ruger No1 with a 180gr Sierra Game King, found inside 4th jug but pierced the back of the jug. 3rd choice 8mm Mauser with 170gr Interlock round nose, inside 4th jug. Finally my .358 Win, 200gr Interlock exited 4th jug and found on the ground. Jacket pieces in 3rd jug. .358 250gr Norma semi-spitter created largest water explosion with jacket found in the 4th jug, core exited 5th jug and was stuck in the phone book. Very informative, impressed with the Interbond, appears all will do the job I will ask of them.

my understanding is that Hornady built these with 7x57 velocity in mind....perfect performance from a 7mm-08 too, very nice...
 
Hornady states the useful velocity range is from 2300 to 3200 f/s for the 154 while the 139 is from 2500 to 3300 f/s.
 
I shot some 154 Interlocks out of a 7mm STW at just around 3200, and they do not stay together at that speed.
They are great at <2900 though. Dave.
 
good one, i did similiar but at 100m as i feel it is more realistic, i see alot of bullet tests shot at blooduy 25m............. an expect a 'report'- whowee..

40 yards, not much better unless your expecting to shoot em that close.

good to hear you got a Ruger 1 303 aswell man.... piccys? :D
 
I've had good experience with the 8mm 170gr Interlock Roundnose in my 8x57. Shot several deer and bear with it and always preformed well. Never recovered one but they were all pass thru's in the lungs. Lately ive found a liking for the 195gr interlock at 2550 fps.

Ive done a non-scientific test in the past to get an idea of How they'll hold up.

Bullet: 8MM .323" 195Gr Hornady Interlock SP
Retained: 160.6
Retention: 82%
Comments: Fired at 8 Yards at 2550fps. Made it 3/4 thru the wood blocks.



Bullet: 180Gr Hornady GMX
Retained: 178.1 GR
Retention: 98.9%
Comments: Great performance, penetration was about 3/4 thru the stack of wood. Not sure how reliable the expansion will be at 300Yards

WILL totally depend on how FAST its still going and what it Hits - needs at least 1800 fps or more to open it up Properly - RJ
 
The start up was at 2700 fps. Bullet was shot a few yards away and would have expected it to peel back abit more, thus i have my doubts about it at 300 yards.

According to the ballistic calculator with a start of 2700 fps and a B.C. of .460 its good to 500 Yards.
I would be more inclined to use it in a 325 WSM or 8MM REM Mag at 3100 fps over the 8x57.
I have used the gmx in the 8x57 and got 2 deer with it one season, never recovered any bullets to confirm my doubts. One shot was actually 300 yards away, spined the buck with an exit.
