Don't sweep my brass!!!

You fired 60 rounds without getting up to look around? Those guns and the guys that shoot them there (you accepted if you were firing one at a time at the 500 metre gong) make the biggest mess's, they generally destroy the 25 yard target board. Half those guys want to walk aroudn with a 911 on each hip and the AR on their backs. Swat wannabe's who don't know the first thing about or safe handling at a range. I've kicked two guys off the range for holding loaded AR's over the back in the funky black slings that were walking around with rounds in the chamber. I made them go over to the pistol range.

FWIW, it would take me three hours to shoot 60 rounds from my Sako and if I manage to eject a case that I don't grab, I stop and pick it up.

Dude, your high horse just sh*t on that guys lawn. Now he's running away, go catch'em.

Keep your freakin' Jim Zumboisms in your head and off the keyboard. Your blaming guns for retarded people's actions, and that is not exceptable.
I am glad you work hard and spend time supporting your range and improving on it. It doesn't give you the right to chomp on somebodies shooting style or MO if he is being responsible.

Sounds like somebody became a little too helpful, Silverado, and I feel your frustration. I am still assuming that you went dumpster diving though:D.

Holly Crap:
I've been to your guys range, and it's awesome. I've also shot along side both Martin and Silverado.
FWIW: Martin take a chill pill bud, we all have issues with the wanna be types, after all you fellows tollerated your local mall ninja, to pack his wheel gun on his hip at your Rodeo 2 years ago, and you guys were astounded when I suggested it was the wrong sort of behaviour during a rifle shoot. Apparently there is now a rule about handguns on the rifle range. Hmmm.
And Jamie(Silverado) Sorry to here about your brass, and I'm sure this thread just started as a bit of a vent of frustration. but c'mon even you said it aint that big of deal, since you probably fished most of the brass out of bin earlier. I'm sure those fellows thought and acted with good intentions, heck at least they cleaned up after themselves.
We have a brass bin at our range, even tough it's posted with a sign saying no 22 shells, no shotgun shells, and no metal cased 7.62 (SKS) cases, Guess what we constantly find in there?
The sooner we shooters quite fighing amungst ourselves, the sooner we can help ourselves. Put your efforts towards the gun grabbing, ganola eating, Liberal voting no minds, and learn to live in harmony.

KDX, Beltfed, SLavex, and pottsy, none of you guys have ever been to our range and seen the damage those iodiots have done to it when they are unsupervised. We installed lights that I worked countless bingo's to help pay for over the last 6 years, all teh fixtures shot out with 45 ammo, the metal poles holding our range closed sign is full of 45 calibre holes. Ten yards in front of the 100 yard target we find 200 rounds of 45 acp brass, because they already blew the 25 yard target all to hell. The "tactical" boys in fact do walk around with loaded ar's etc pointed at ther people when they are using those silly slings. So when you guys live here, support the range for 6 years, raise money to help pay for the stuff they wreck, you can tell me to take my head out of my ass, in the mean time f##k yourself.

So you have some arsehole members and feel that it's the weapons that make them arseholes? Christ, that's the same logic Liberal and Anti-gunners use.
No gun - no funeral right? Except in your case it would be no Tactical weapons , no arseholes?

My guess is that those guys were just trying to be helpful.

Them sweeping up your brass doens't seem malicious, just ignorant. Probably better to let them know at the source, rather than #####ing about it here.

I agree Gatehouse, I just wanted to vent a little. If they were shooters I'd ever seen before, I'd surely bring it up with them if I saw them again.

NOW... ENOUGH SQUABBLING! IT WAS NOT MY INTENTION TO START YET ANOTHER ARGUEMENT OF HUNTERS VS. BLACK RIFLES!!!

WE'VE ALL HAD ENOUGH OF THAT s**t (AT LEAST I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT).

"WE MUST HANG TOGETHER, OR WE WILL SURELY HANG SEPERATLY"

Thanks to all who have posted.

I agree with you , we need an RSO program, I almost got shot last year at the 300 metre berm by one of those idiots last fall. We closed the range, several of us walked down to 100 yards and I kept going to the 300 metre targets, while checking them I heard a quad behind me. We had a guy traping the beavers he drove up behind the range and saw two of the SKS marksmen getting ready, guns loaded on their benches while I was down range wearing a BLAZE orange vest.

Silverado, I'm sorry, I'm teeing off on the wrong guy here, we've met, I know you support the range doing work out there and use it for all types of rifle.

No apology needed Martin. I get just as worked up as you do over the damage, vandalism and unsafe practices I see at the range.

I shoot pistol very little, but framed the shooting house over on the pistol range for free, just to give back to the club (with the help of some other members, of course!)

Now, you'd think that the pistol shooters would be thrilled to have a totally enclosed, framed, insulated house to shoot from during cold weather. It would also make a great admin area for the big IPSC shoot every year.

Imagine my surprise as we were pulling the package apart, only to find bullet holes in the door, windows and material that had been delivered.

Just the other night while we were packing up and comparing targets, I was sure wishing for some light... would've been no problem if some ####### hadn't shot them all out.

I've been out there with Dave, Clint, and the South African doc who's name I always forget, and we've discussed various ways of trying to combat the problem.

You, I and everybody else know that the individuals who cause the damage are by far the exception, rather than the rule.

There is a wireless internet camera for sale in the EE. Sounds like you guys over in fort mac need to gather the evidence required to have the mounties lay some charges. I am sure the prosecuter would love video of some idiots using firearms while committing the crimes you have outlined. I am also sure your local gun shop would be happy to post pics of the perps destroying property etc.

AS for the swept brass I would look at as a great opportunity to get my head and shoulders in the garbage can to rout out what ever treasures are in there. But then again I am a shameless range garbabge picker.

I would like to think GAtehouse is right and it was a mistake but I have had the experience of Fudds sighing and cleaning my X39 before it hardly hits the ground just so they can complain what a mess semis make and paint themselves as heros for cleaning it up.

It sounds like you have a serious problem at the range with people acting like complete moron's. Why in gods name would they shoot up the lights and equipment/facilities? Makes no sense. Might be time to install some game camera's and catch the perpetrators for a good old-fashioned turfing. Of course it sounds like they would shoot those up as well. A real problem you guys have there, I am glad my range doesn't suffer from the same problems.

Oh no, whatever you do NEVER give that kind of 'ammo' to the police! Yikes, the range problem would get fixed... permanently. You just let it be known who the idiots are and turf them from the club forever.

P.S silverado keep up the good work and try to focus on the opportunity you are giving good people and try not to let the bad apples take you out of the range.

I respectfully disagree but understand your point, maybe instead a visit to the CFO to get the perps PALs pulled or a visit to thier employer,if they are driving company vehicles to the range would have some effect. At the very least you can identify the perps and kick them out. (make sure the thier ATT goes to)
Sounds to me like there will not be much of a range left if nothing is done.

Jamie,

I must have had a headache last night, it's the things that happenned to your house that drive me nuts about our range. It's one of the best anywhere, we spend between $50 and $100k every year on maintenance, guys like you a Clint build those facilites, guys like me with no skills help raise the money I have become increasingly frustrated by the damage done to the facilites. Your shooting house gets shot up, the CG range gets wrecked(the first time I went there I never imagined it could get wrecked being all steel and concrete), some ####### steals the biathlon targets which cost over $2000 US each( I can't imagine what they planned to do with them), guys take the sandbags home with them. We have over 300 members, somewhere around 50 volunteer whether that's bingo's or working at the range itself. I got tired of doing it this year, no Bingo's so other idiots can wreck the stuff we buy. I am just going to pay the $200 instead this year.

I teed off on you and I shouldn't have, but f@#$ I'm frustrated by it.

Sorry,

Martin

Sounds like it's time for some security cameras. Even if they aren't being monitored constantly, the fear of being caught on camera should stop some of the behaviour.

I thought we had it bad at our range. Idiots with large caliber hunting rifles trying to punch holes in the pistol/rimfire plates, bullet holes in all of the garbage cans, shotgun blasts through the target boards, etc. At least I haven't seen any of the buildings getting shot up yet.

Maybe it's an Alberta thing, I don't know. The house I described is a very small almost miniature one room thing Jamie and Clint assembled fomr a kit in the middle of the IPSIC area.

BAHAHAHA... it would take a hell of a lot more than bad apples to keep me off the range...

'Appreciate the thought though.

Once again Martin, I'm with you. We have a top notch facility, really fantastic.

We need to be more creative or diligent, or both, about stopping the few who for whatever reason want to wreck it for the rest of us.

I'll be front and centre with my time and ideas come the next meeting, and on an ongoing basis.

The whole lot of us are pissed about it; all we collectively need to do is stop #####ing and get doing!
