I ran into a problem last night when trying to take the filler screws out of the top of the reciever of my girlfriends T3x compact. They're plastic and they seem to be stuck in there pretty good. All I'm doing is stripping them when trying to take them out and I wondered if you guys knew of any tricks I could use to get them out of there before I mangle them even further. Thanks.

Gotta love plastic. Select an allen wrench which will fit inside the threaded hole. Heat it up (you might want to hold it in pliers for this) then let it melt it's way down into the filler screw. let it cool (you can help it along with some water) then wind it out.

I would try warming up the screws with a hair dryer. That might help them break free a bit so they will turn. They are just plastic so they can't be in very tight.

This is going to be the first thing I try. I'm thinking it's some of the preservation grease that was put on at the factory that got in there and is making them stick.

Plastic screws!? That's bs.

I know right? Not impressed. I have 4 tikka's of my own and this is the first one I've seen with the plastic fillers in it.

I hadn't thought of this. Sounds like a really good trick. If I end up screwing them up real good then is definitely the course of action i will pursue.

I don't know if they are even threaded... and I don't know why any of the factories bother with plug screws... it seems all we do is take them out so we can mount a base...

I've owned a few tikka t3's over the years and have only seen plastic filler screws. I guess if you are using opticlock mounts would be the only time not to remove them.

What I'm trying to put on is a Mountain Tactical picatinny rail. I got a set of rings that'll fit it for free so I'm just trying to keep the costs down. And they're pretty solid. Their rails use the same holes and have the recoil lug just like optiloks.

They can be pushed through with an appropriate punch and small hammer, I have done this many times with out damaging anything. Just be sure you shake them out of the action so they don't jam any thing.

I don't think you can push them through the barrel threads. If the other holes are not blind, the plugs can be pushed through, of course.

So I tried all of the suggestions in the thread one by one and ended up using your trick, Bill. Worked like a charm. Thank you all very much for the help.
