Handguards for stock Stag-10 barrel nut?

I’m new to AR10/AR15 style rifle builds and didn’t take into consideration the tools/time needed to swap barrel nuts on a Stag-10 rifle. Add to that the possible warranty implications if I do said work.

This has now got me rethinking things.

What handguard options exist that will fit the standard barrel nut on a Stag-10 bones rifle? Ideally 12.7”-13.7” long.

The stock Stag 10 barrel nut is steel and HEAVY! All you need to remove it is a large enough spanner wrench, Canadian tire has what you need. You're going to need a barrel vise too though. A regular vise with cleverly crafted wood jaws would do the trick too.

Most replacement handguards come with their own proprietary barrel nut. I'm using the Maple Ridge Armoury X1 handguard right now and I'm very happy with it. It has an aluminium barrel nut. The weight saving from the 15" Lev2 to the 17" MRA was 6 ounces, 8 ounces if I went with the 15" MRA.

If I can remove the nut by clamping the protected/padded barrel in a vise that’s doable. I thought I’d need an upper receiver insert to put in a vise in order to change it.

This seems very doable then.
 
True north arms sells wheeler upper vise blocks that use the picatinny rail or pin holes to hold the upper. I used one last night and it worked great. For a 50 dollar tool it is invaluable

Arms East has brought these in before and might even still have some.

If you were closer to me I would swap the barrel nut for you if you wanted to go aftermarket(I have a reaction rod and torque wrench).

If anyone is interested this 13.5" rail came with my Stag10 upper/lower, and I did not use it, so I am willing to let it go for cheap if anyone is interested in a rail for their build
