Anybody shooting T3 in .338 Win Mag

I enjoyed packing the T-3 Lite, synthetic, and a few hunts hiking up and down moutains and hills, It makes a difference Trust me.

My arms could feel it vs my other 7.5 and 9 lbs guns.

the 6.5 lbs was a relief even straping it on my shoulder!!

and the recoil is not even a factor when shooting game!

LOL! I guess thats true, I am not very recoil sensative so its hard for me to comment, seem to be able to pound away any little beasts? and find my t-3 338 not to bad at all.
I do have a few that are not nice to shoot and jars you fillings loose, but i am good for 7-10 rounds?
 
so you want an uber light .338 mag? what animal, on the top of a mountain, need a .338 mag? boggles the mind. worried about Gbears? a 7lb .30-06 is going to kill it just as dead, and a better choice to hump up a big hill.

I dont think anyone was suggesting that one would need a magnum, i choose to carry one because i am comportable hunting with that rifle like you are with your 30-06.
Botton line Magnums either you love them or hate them??

I happen to like them as much as the non mags?? and carry a 30-06 to a 6.5 x55 as much as anyone.

I hear you, I like some of the classic mags. the "you" in the above post was the big YOU, not directed at anyone in particular. I just get irked when i see people using big guns they cannot handle. accuracy before power in all things.
 
I no bud no worries! these threads get carried away more than enough ( not this one), I look at it in a away that anyone is entitled to there opinion on a open public board and I repect that!
and in most cases the points expressed are more of a personal opinion than anything LOL! making no one right, and I am as guilty as anyone else for suggesting It!

I am the worst one here likely LOL! I more than likely own way to many rifles in every cartdidge you can think of I try to shoot then time to time but not enough. And always comment that I use this or that, but really when it comes down to it I carry but a few?
my 300 Wm 338 Wm and a 270 or 30-06

and out of all of them 60% of the game I harvested have been with a 30-06!

I have shot deer and bear ,out of a tree stand with a lot of different guns, with new toys at stupid speeds just to see, and big and small calibers to see how it will work, and I can honestly ! it been close !!! but honestly I recovered all my game except the odd duck that dove on me!

But I will agree a 30-06 will do anything I would ask it to do!

Changed your mind so soon? you carry a 6 3/4 lb 450 marlin that wont hit you too much lighter than a T3 in 338 win mag...

not poking fun, but I can understand a light gun not being a priority to you folks out east. if I hunted in ontario I think i would be more concerned with overall length then weight. you guys hunt in much thicker stuff then we do, or are in treestands. weight isn;t much of an issue. right now my rifle is 7,5lbs all up (scope, bases, 4 rounds and a sling). comming back from the US with a Banser stock and gre-tan pin assembly this fall. should knock atleast a pound off the total package weight.

I also have a very busted up knee, one day with a 40lb pack these days and I want to die. shaving weight keeps me in a happy place when I spend time in the mountains :D

this did make a tonne of sense though... I think that most of us have fell for this before... But, the sad truth is, experience doesnt come overnight.
 
darryl, I use a light .450 marlin because I guide for nasty things with big teeth, in land with many larger nasty things with bigger teeth. I spend all day on foot for the most part, with clients that are questionable shots. going into side
alder after a wounded bear, I would prefer to be packing the most powerful rifle I can shoot accurately ;) I shoot it very well, and handle the recoil just fine, so why not have the extra power? :D if I couldn't shoot it well I would sell it in a heartbeat, and go to a rifle I could shoot accuratly :D

I've shot a t3 in .300mag and it was nasty. I handled it just fine, but it wasn't fun. something about those guns (stock design?) makes them beat the #### out of my shoulder :D

I searched long and hard for an M695 in .338WM. One chance at picking up and handling the T3, I figured that this was too little mass for the big .338.
After two years of various loads, I finally decided on IMR4350 powder over IMR4891 that I was loading previously. That change in powder burn rate produced a real nasty sharp recoil that I just didn't want to deal with, but I wanted to continue shooting this rifle, often. Here was the answer, I'm prepared for the ugly gun comments, but hey at least I haven't sprayed it with bedliner...yet. ;)

no, some elmer fudd at the PG Range that was spraying bullets all over the place. his target looked like a road map to the universe and he asked me to shoot a group to see if it was just him. 1.5" 3 shot group later I had a feeling that I didn;t want to shoot anymore :D

LOL, sounds like my old savage. I added a pound and a half of leadshot to the buttstock for range sessions. Man did it help quell the recoil, but it didnt handle well. Put a few ziplock bags with a half poound each into the stock, and filled the remainder of the cavity wiht plastic bags, and put the pad back on. Peel it out for hunting, and its a light heavy hitter.

I shot quite a few animals with it before i sold it, (truth be told, I dont think I missed anything with it) an recoil just wasnt an issue with fur infront of me.

Most synthetic stocks have a pocket area in the buttstock... for range sessions, a simple unscrew and stuff will turn the 338 into a pussycat.

you pay the shipping, I'll ship her out to you to try. :rockOn: I was at the guelph range 3 weeks ago with Chilly willy shooting the handguns, and sighting in some rfles at 100. There was a few guys there shooting their handguns getting ready for bear guiding this year. I was talking to one of the guys who has a 308 he was sighting in a few days before. He was interested in the 338, but had never shot one, and was convinced it was brutal. I told him to send one downrange out of mine. (225 gr X over 71.5 gr's of RL19) NO flinch, or gripe, he touched one off right into the group I was shooting.
I havent seen a grin like that in a while:D The first thing out of his mouth was " My 308 kicks harder than that! I'm getting one" Than I explained to him that in factory form, its a bit harder on the shoulder, but I have a Hogue full chassis overmoulded stock on my ruger. The guy wasnt a noob, he knew his ####, but his reaction was priceless.


And man do those stocks soak up recoil.

Some stocks make a world of difference for recoil reduction.
