Good evening CGN collective.

I was left a Winchester Big Bore Model 94 top eject from a good friend. I just can't get on with the rear buckhorn sight, and would like to have a rear peep sight. I would however like to keep the gun original and not have to drill and tap. Does anyone know if the Williams FP-94/36 Receiver Peep Sight is a direct install, or know of another brand that would work.

Worst case is, I will have to drill and tap, but would like to keep that as a final option. It is a nice Firearm, and was hoping to drop a deer with it this year in his memory, but that buckhorn rear sight is of no use to me.

Thanks for your help

mines a standard model 94 williams peep........ sits on a bit of an angle cos of the big bore frame.... works fine but those who are pedantic wouldnt put up with it

It’s in .375 Win, which I have come to find out is a little difficult to come by. I have inherited a couple boxes of shells, and will likely have to handload for it, which won't be so bad.

It has a low 3000 serial number, so I suspect it was made in 1978 or 79ish. The Bluing and finish on it is very nice, it will be nice to sit in the woods with it.

mate Nice Rifle there! i have a thing for the 375s , i got one on a bit of random oppertunity when i walked in for a lever gun i didnt really want a 30-30 and i didnt want a 45-70.... my options were at the time 375win and or 444 marlin... in the end super glad i chose the 375 win, but i agree it certainly is a reloaders round! but its easy to reload with the right tools including a Crimp die to lock the projie in place in the straight case!

awesome too hear of the Guy hunting Moose with the 375win, that would be a sight too see

I think I read somewhere that the sight could be filed a bit to make it sit right. Does it look like it could be done?

I had a 356 a while back and did have to file a corner off of the sight base so it would sit flat against the side of the receiver. Worked out good after that.

The 94 Big Bore was originally offered from the factory with William's Peep Sights as an option, where the rear sight was missing and the dovetail was filled with a blank.
Have had several over the years, and have just acquired another top eject with the regular open sights. Also own a Marlin 375S in 375 Win (my first personal 375 Win). It has accounted for several moose and black bears over the years, as well as my first woodland caribou.
It is a great cartridge and an absolute joy to shoot and hunt with!
Yes, handloading has its advantages, and the Hdy 220gr FP isn't made anymore, leaving just the 200gr Sierra bullets which can be difficult to locate.
Winchester did finally make a run of ammo last year, and the gun store are charging approx $90/box. HSM also makes ammo for the 375 Win now with the 200gr Sierra bullet. Have some, but haven't tried it yet. Any guns tore that carries HSM ammo will be able to order it in for you.
I also have Big Bores in the 307 and 356, and enjoy the 356 too (a gift from my hunting partner for the last 20 years). Haven't shot the 307 yet and have it up for sale to fund another project. It has very nice wood and the monte carlo stock that was only available in 1983 (if I have my history right). If it sells great, if not it will stay in the collection and be passed on to my daughter or her children in the future. Also have the Marlin 336ER in 356 Win which took over 20 years to find. Very cool to have both! And both from both manufacturers. The Marlins have scopes, while the Winchesters will be used with open sights (just for fun!)

Managed to get a little spike buck with my .375 Big Bore on Thursday in the Ontario Regular season Rifle hunt WMU 47.
Some fresh snow on the ground allowed me to track him for a KM or so, the he busted me. He went left on me around a rather large hill, I went right, we met on the other side. Raised the rifle, settled the fibre front sight through the newly installed peep Sight from Williams on his chest. Slowly cocked the hammer, and he was down.

This rifle is a dream to carry and shoot, and glad to have the memory of my buddy with me.

There is a variant of Foolproof reciever sight with a factory modification so one does not have to file it as you did.Bit of a dog leg to clear the big bore M94 hump in the action.
