how many of them would refuse to enforce a law to kick in a door and confiscate guns from "criminal by pen stroke" gun owners? how many would be willing to go from police officer to unemployed because of their strong beliefs? its a serious question, im not being argumentative, i don't know any cops so ive always wondered how many would stand up to their superiors and the government vs how many would justify it all away to keep the pension
I suspect many will refuse to enforce the ban - remember that the registry compliance was low and nothing came of it.
I won’t lose my job over it as I will give my firearms up if there isn’t any legal recourse remaining for me. I’ve got too many kids to feed, and I can likely do more good as a cop; convincing people who might listen that this is wrong and that law abiding people can be trusted.
Some of the resistance talk on here plays into the anti gun crowds wringing hands. We’re aren’t violent people folks. Knock it off!
Kicking doors is a lot work and VERY expensive. It requires a lot of planning, reporting, and warrants that are difficult to get for ACTUAL crime houses. I’ve never tried to get a warrant to enter a home to confiscate legally obtained property from a normal person - I don’t even know what that’ll look like, or what judge would grant a warrant like that. Then what cop is going to do it? Not me!
Also, quite frankly my jurisdiction is stretched so thin that we’re only targeting really bad criminals. Going after law abiding people will require a substantial funding increase that we’ve been told just isn’t there. It’ll also divert resources away from actual crime - not that the government cares about turning a blind eye on crime. They’ve asked us to do it with safe injection camps and crime has sky rocketed in those areas as a result.
Executing a search warrant is also dangerous work, you’ll have armed people going into armed homes - everyone could be the nicest folks in the world but forget a safety precaution and someone could get hurt. Someone getting hurt will bring any such future operations to a screeching halt until an inquiry is complete.
Our budget means our cars, duty gear, EVERYTHING has to last longer. There just isn’t any money to do this.
Blair is an ex cop, that’s confounding as he doesn’t seem understand gun crime. Albeit he strikes me as the kinda cop that would pull over soccer moms going 10k over the limit and throw the book at them, while crack heads stole her hubcaps. There are cops like that - I suspect he’s the man for that job.
