I finally received the HK 416 Demo gun that we have been waiting for since Christ was a cowboy. They shipped us the 14.5 inch barrel model. I've only shot it twice so far.

Very nice weapon. A bit heavy but solid. Easy to control in full auto. Smooth operation. Got the gun quite hot and the bolt stayed cool and wet with lube. No malfunctions of any kind so far. Have used three different types of factory ammo including frangible with no problems. I'm most impressed with the mags. All steel and very smooth followers. They appear to be the best M16 Mags that I have ever seen or used. They are heavy being all steel but load and function great. If you've ever seen them you know what I mean.

Now I can't believe that I'm going to say this but right now I think that our Swiss Arms SG552's are better weapons. Better trigger pulls, smoother operation, seem to control recoil a bit better and easier to get hits with. They have better ergonomics and operation uses gross motor skills to a greater extent than the 416. I haven't tried accuracy in detail with the 416 but it will be hard to beat the SG552.

I'm headed out with the 416 again today to give it some more detailed time.

Savage will have Pic's and video on Sunday.

Had it out again today. Ragged hole at 25 meters, same as the SG 552 (only the SG552 has a 9" barrel instead of 14.5"). Hard to measure accuracy at 100 meters. It has an EOTECH on it and under bad wind condtions it shot about a 4" group. I'll try to throw some optics on it to get a better measure. It's growing on me. Just still not convinced that it is better than the SG552.

(can you fondle it nicely for me???? please???????????)

When I hear about all these new guns...sometimes I want to move down south.....hmmmm....guns...family....guns.....

Yeah Rich, Chris was telling me about it. He said the best thing about the mags was you can press down anywhere on the follower and the whole things moves down in one motion. Bet that helps the thumb feel a bit better after having to load the mags repeatly with the full auto testing.

Guys I sent Rich a PM with some "insider" info on the mag.

Before you all think its the best thing since sliced bread - USSOC is stopping procurement of them until Hk fixes some issues.
