Aimpoint knockoff's

Basically they work more like iron sights as opposed to a laser sight.

A laser sight if properly zeroed indicates to POI.

The red dot gives you a ''floating'' POI or approximate POI.

If your barrel sight is pointing at the target but you are not properly aligned on the rear sight you are going to miss. Same with a red dot.

Hope tis helps. :p

For what it's worth... if I can see the dot, the bullet will go where the dot is on target. It doesn't matter if my dot is in the middle of the sight or on the edge of the sight...

Mike.

Thank u Mike, that's what I wanted to know. I didn't know how to clarify my question. The link to the video best explained my question. Again, thank u Mike.

Barney,
A nice thread to resurrect.......
So what's the long term review on the Aimpoint clone? Have you been using it for the last two years and still in service?:)

Cheers Bud.

I've got one of the chinese Aimpoint knockoffs. I have shot really well with it in an ORA Tac Carbine match in July 2005. I used it on my 14.5" carbine barrel at the ORA August Fun match up to 200 yards and damn, did that knockoff like to shoot well. Especially on the "mover" or "walking man" figure 11 target.

I love mine and heartily recommend it for the $ 100 delivered price from our CGN member: jackiscyxd or something like that.

Go for it.

Cheers,
Barney

I've had mine on my AR for nearly a year now. Still holding zero. The only issue I've had was with a loose connection in the diode wiring. A little tinkering and that has been remedied. :D
Alot of people think if you buy one of these, your #### will fall off, but I think it's a great value for plinking at the range.

Where Can I get one of these Aimpoint knock offs.:)

1337tactical.com... mine works great! Only problem is the metal rods that hold the lens covers to the body start slipping out after several rounds. A guy at the range i go to told me to use a little clear nail polish to keep them in place.

As for zero, no prob.

i just took out the rod and hammered on one end till it flattened out a bit and squeezed it back it.

works great.

They don't handle heat and recoil that well... I had one on my VZ 58 rail and rapid firing made the dot go. Wasn't till it cooled off, was when it started to work again.

I've had an Ultradot aimpoint clone for two years on a savage 99 in .300 and it has held zero, though the round count is not too high.

I sold mine about a year ago... It was ONE year old, working really well. Worked some extra shifts at the Blue Mtn Chairlifts (ski hill) and then I bought an ACOG. Problem solved.

I was only using it on a .223 AR carbine. So recoil and all those issues did not matter much.

Hey for a hundred bucks ? Have some fun. You'll blow that in Rama Casino or Niagara Casino in one night !!

Barney

I checked the website: 1337tactical.com and they don't seem to have any in stock. They were on a few US websites however, anyone know if they are the same thing - would all these clones come from one manufacturer?
