A couple of weeks ago at DSEI 2019, in London, I had the chance to take a look at Colt Canada’s latest offering, a 7.62x51mm semi-automatic precision rifle developed for the Canadian Army. The C20 Semi-Automatic Sniper Weapon builds on the C7/8 family of 5.56x45mm rifles currently in Canadian service following extensive testing.

The new rifle was selected by the Canadian Army in August, as part of their Sniper System Project, and was developed to fulfil a sniper, not a designated marksman role. The contract for the rifle is forthcoming but Colt Canada expect to deliver at least 300 rifles, all in FDE finish. The C20 went through extensive Canadian Armed Forces testing, to meet relevant NATO standards, including extreme conditions and endurance tests – during which it fired 8,000 without stoppages.

The rifle has an 18in barrel, but a 16in version is likely to be available in the future. Colt Canada claim “the C20 achieved an average of .66 MOA over 144 five-round groups, collected throughout endurance testing” with a 1 in 10 twist, 4 groove barrel, with all groups “shot with first round cold with suppressor, using 175gr Federal Gold Medal Match ammunition..................

"Oh my that's lovely that is...."

I suppose if you're on the ball, the enemy isn't going to live long enough to get close enough to tell you that you have a baby####-coloured rifle, and the intrepid young soldier will be motivated to keep it that way.

Guessing the barrel is Colt's own; I wonder if any of these bits will eventually reach the civilian market. Can anyone ID the scope?

that doesn't look like an ar due to the match between upper and lower...do we have a non restricted on the horizon?

My Colt USA LE901 already shoots consistent sub-moa, 5-shot groups @ 100m out of its 16" factory barrel using FGMM 175gr SMKs. I fail to see the need for a uniquely "made in Canada" solution to a common operational requirement that has already been satisfied elsewhere. Just saying...

I would argue that it's a good move for CC. Technically you could make the same argument for the C7/C8 that there isn't a need for a uniquely made in Canada rifle. Yet they have won some decent contracts and I personally prefer them over the USA Colt rifles.

Plus look at LMT. They made inroads with the UK using their MWS 308. Then New Zealand and now New Zealand is switching over their AUG rifles to LMT 556. LMT just won a contract with Estonia defence for both 556 and 308 which required beating out HK and SIG.

I'm seeing it as necessary for CC to continue to compete for those international contracts.

I'm hearing the 901 lower was only for the prototypes and not the actual C20.

The monolithic upper/straight gas tube design used by Colt Canada/Colt is patented by LMT.

Latest photos from Colt Canada. I like the looks. Looks like another very nice AR308.

Okay I seriously like that
