Hello,

I noticed savage arms released a new version of their axis chambered in 300 blackout, seems a bit new to be in Canada at the moment but I would love to grab one. If anyone has any thoughts on it or knows if they are in country yet let me know! I think it would be a fun rifle to just target shoot with.

The Axis is a terrible firearm; flimsy stock, bad magazine retention and hitchy bolt manipulation. Buy something else. If Remington makes a 783 in .300 BO, buy that instead.

They are accurate cheap plinkers, if you invest in a good boyds stock they perform just as well as any of my expensive rifles. I didn't intend for it to be a dedicated hunting platform...

They're junk and "investing" in them is foolish. You asked for thoughts I gave you mine. The Axis is not a fun rifle, it's a mess of poorly executed ideas with no redeemable features other than the price. The 783 is a better gun in every way.

Lots of better options...

Go and handle a 783, The HB version has a lot plus's . As well checkout Jerry Teo ( Mystic Precsion) articles on the 783.

I have HB 783 in 6.5 Creedmoor,.308,223, and 300 AAC, as well as .308 and .223 in the standard configuration. In my opinion they are the best of the budget rifles out there.

What accuracy is the norm out of the box on these?

Some folks just need to spend a couple thou on a rifle to make them a better shot I guess....some don't tho.

I put a 300 dollar savage axis gen 1 into a 250 dollar boyds stock and it is a better shooter than my sako and tikka. The mags suck, the bolt is sloppy, the stock is garbage, the loading port is tiny, but they shoot so well. For a plinker they work.

I havent seen an axis that doesnt shoot well and although im not a rem fan i do like the 783 hb version with the nuce bolt knob. Its basically a better savage and just a simple system even remington couldnt screw it up. Mine in 223 shoots so well i decided to keep the factory barrel instead of rebarreling to 20 tac as i had originally planned. I wouldnt hesitate to buy another 783. Mine does sit in a mdt lss chassis

My two cents on this is that the AXIS model, especially the AXIS II is not a bad rifle for target shooting. The AXIS II gives you the accu-trigger which is a really nice setup. The only problem is, I would want to move up in quality for any .30 cal rifle. My brother owns an AXIS is .223 REM and its a super fun, super accurate plinker but they are definately tupperware stocks which do flex, and the heavier caliber rifles may not be as accurate but i just don't have that experience.

Well while i respect your opinion most have a goal of hitting what you are aiming at and if you are same minded the axis is accurate out of the box goodness you do not mind dragging through the brush
i love keeping up with some of my friends with their 2000 dollar rifles

I'm also interested in an Axis in 300 blackout. An MDT LSS is not an expensive upgrade.

Right now apparently they are so new they are not in country yet. I was told there isn't a Canadian product number yet. Only place I see that has them is irunguns. Not a fan. If you or anybody here knows where to get them in country please share! I'm making a zombie green version with boyds at-one stock.
