Beautiful day in the Ottawa Valley, sunny and small wind gusts. Went to EDSC range in Eganville. Tried my 457 with a Nikon Black X1000 6-24x50SF Matte Illuminated X-MOA mounted on an Area 419 15 MOA base.Used a Caldwell Target Camera which worked great ! A few fliers, but otherwise not bad for 200 yds !
Using both CCI Standard and SK Pistol Match, both performed equally well !

The solid walnut looks great, I guess it really is worth the extra $15USD to get it. Although I am pretty happy with the Nutmeg laminate on a AT-One thumbhole, it's not quite as classy as walnut.

Check out the AT-ONE version, the OE stock is different than the one on the boyds website, in particular doesn't have the somewhat ugly looking black forend piece

Sorry, what?

The AT-ONE is the AT-ONE, is it not? Adjustable length of pull and comb, and the interchangeable fore-end tip. The AT-ONE Thumbhole, has a thumbhole and the other AT-ONE features...

Yes but also not. Check this out

See the bottom of the front end.

As it is I haven't found a source for that, I think it's CZ OE on THEIR version of the 457 AT-ONE. If you buy aftermarket you get what the OP has.

Boyds is the original manufacturer of the At-One stock. The one they make for CZ is a little different in appearance (not in function) from the one they offer on their website. This makes the CZ 457 At-One slightly different in appearance only from a CZ 457 Varmint barreled action in a Boyds At-One stock.

Ah, I see.

Boyds also makes thumbhole stocks for Savage, for the Mk.II BTV. Really nice dark walnut-like laminate stock, or at least the one I have looks like walnut. Tried emailing Boyds to see what the heck kind of wood it is, and the person who responded had no idea what it is (Boyds apparently does not offer a walnut laminate - well, at least they don't for commoners, maybe for OEMs though).

If it is a laminate, it is Rutland birch ply, not walnut... Rutland and parent company stain the birch plys to great effect, however the walnut options are in self-blocks... you get what you get for grain, but can choose to upgrade (at higher cost), the various claro grades for figure.

So as to not clog up the thread, attached is a half-assed attempt at taking a photo of the stock. It's difficult to get the colour to show without getting too much glare off the flash...

Walnut-like, is how I describe it. It's certainly not the Boyds nutmeg laminate - of which I have a version of, which is a nice laminate but lighter than the Mk.II BTV. Gotta be some sort of special tint done up for Savage.

There is a huge variation in the colour of laminate stocks... it depends on how the wood takes the dye, which is largely dictated by density, which is affected by grain structure and the moisture level of the wood... I have seen some stocks compiled of "Nutmeg" plys even darker than yours, and others that were many shades lighter... I imagine that various colour batches of stain could also contribute to the colour variation aswell. One very good reason to choose "Nutmeg" over "Pepper" is that the nutmeg colour hides the heartwood... I find exposed heartwood, which is brown or rust coloured, showing in the grey "Pepper" laminate to be visually jarring... when ordering stocks in the "grey" range, I always request a stock with "no heartwood" in the "Notes."
