I'm looking for half a dozen 1911 mags for use in Cowboy Action Shooting (Wild Bunch event). Blued or stainless. Don't need base plates although the rules currently allow thin leather pads as an add on.

Any recommendations re: make or dealer .... ?

Rusty Wood in Mission BC has or can get Mecgar steel base mags that meet the rules. That's where I got mine. And they worked just great right from the get go. The only thing I did was lightly stone the burrs around the mag lips to keep from cutting my fingers. But I find I have to do that with pretty well any semi auto center fire mags. I'm such a delicate flower... :d

I wanted a couple extra mags for my 1911, and got a deal on a couple Remington mags. Their smooth chrome finish is slick and they work great with light semi-wad cutters right up to heavy round nose.

My Remington mags for both my R1's are Mec Gar's. Mec Gar is OEM for a number of gun makers now. The Mec Gar mags I bought for my cz 75 are better than the ones it came with

I did not know that they made the R1 Mags; I agree, I got a Mec Gar CZ75 .40 mag for my Jericho, and it is Identical except for the colour of the follower and the stamp; I wonder if they do the Jericho mags too? Works perfect!

What magazines will work for you depends on a number of things, especially the ammo you are shooting. Here are a couple links I really like:

If you are just shooting FMJ Ball, the original lip design will work well for you. I shoot mostly 200gr SWC, and the hybrid lip design works for me with both Ball and SWC in a 1993 Colt and a more recent Springfield Inc.

My father gave me some really expensive stainless magazines, which had a follower without the nub. When I fired the next-to-last round, the last round in the magazine always ejected itself from the magazine and I would find it sitting on top of the magazine, facing backwards.
