Having an issue with a .444 I picked up on trade awhile back. If I put a round in the magazine tube, when I cycle the action the round gets jammed about halfway out of the mag tube. It happens if I cycle the action soft and slow and also fast and hard. Any advice on what to look at first? If I drop a round in the chamber it fires. Seems like it will be a fun gun when I get it going properly.

I also picked up a new front sight to install since the original was ground off for no good reason I can see.

Thanks for your help!

Here's a link to a thread I put some pics up of it in;

I suspect that a very slight burr on the inner loading gate is the culprit. I had a 336 that drove me nuts with the same stoppage. The burr would grab the brass case and halt the feed from the mag tube. It was so slight I had to use a ball of cotton batten to detect it.

Yes, it gets stuck open.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

It is the loading gate. The arm is either bent inward, or the spring has gotten compressed, and it isn't returning to its proper position. You'll find if you pop it up manually it will fix the issue.
You can order a new one from Gravel, and it's fairly straightforward to replace.
