22lr iron sight performance

What would people expect for group sizing without using an optic? Obviously there are a million variables but:

bulk ammo
open iron sights
ruger 10/22 factory barrel
50 yards
outdoor range

I know the really high end equipment with very talented and skilled shooters could work toward 1MOA accuracy but what's the norm under the conditions I listed?

On a day where I'm not shaky from too much coffee....Probably 3"
In a benchrest. 1"

The downside to the 10/22 is the long barrel. I changed mine out with a 17" green mountain bull barrel. It made a huge difference.

Without fear of going out on a limb, I'm going to say that with bulk ammo, off a bench with a rest, with open sights and a factory barrel 1" groups would be more than optimistic. Bulk ammo cannot be expected to produce such accuracy with a match rifle with a high magnification scope except on unpredictable occasions. Perhaps 3" groups are achievable.

I have a few S&L M70's and M77's, they have very decent target irons, a couple of them will shoot better then 1" at 50m with good ammo.

I agree I have an S&L M77 & with the aperture sights I can get one inch 10 shot groups at 60m with good ammo.

The stock sights on such a rifle are not aperture sights.

The best eyes cannot make a stock 10/22 do what it cannot do with bulk ammo and iron sights.
