Boyd AtOne Stock SUCKS!

i had been thinking about picking up one of the Boyd AT-One Stocks for one or two of my rifles, they looked like they have everything a fella could want.
ive got a couple of their other stocks and they are really nice, the At-One has some nice add ones like the adjustable check and LOP.

my dad picked one up a while back and warned me off it telling me he HATES his new stock.

i thought he was being dramatic.
until i went down to visit this last weekend and he showed me his 243 that he has in a At-One stock.

OH MY GOD is that a piece of crud stock!
every angle is sharp and it hurts your hands.... everywhere you grab it!
who makes a rifle stock with sharp ridged all over it!?!?!?!?!?!?!

stay away, stay far away from these stocks!

my dad was saying he was gonna take after it with a sander this winter then refinish it.
sad, so much promise and looks so good online.

I thought it looked like a great stock when I first saw a picture of it from the side. Then I looked at a few more pics and watched a YouTube video and saw all those sharp edges and said FORGET IT. It looks terribly uncomfortable!
 
Interesting, I wouldn't call those angles sharp, but I can see how that would not be a fun grip. I've shaped a couple wood stocks and you really notice any of the small imperfections in the grip, those lines would be obvious and uncomfortable. Surprised that Boyds would do this, I have a couple of their other stocks and they were great, the SS evolution stock for rimfires is exceptional.

They also have a thumbhole variant of that stock, would be interesting to see if they smoothed the lines at all.

that is exactly my thoughts as well.
i have a couple of their stocks on a few different calibers of guns and im super impressed with their stocks.
my dad runs a LOT of their stocks and he loves them..... then this one arrived.
id bet my dad probably has 8-10 of their stocks on his rifles.

so you dont think a 90' angle pointing right into the meat of your thumb isnt a sharp angle?
on a 243 you will get away with a couple shots before it hurts but a 308 or heaven forbid a 300WSM and youd be bleeding.
death grip or not, put a shard point into the meat of your thumb and pull the trigger, its gonna leave a mark and you arnt gonna be shooting that gun again i guarantee.

I disagree with your assessment... the stock was not designed for sporter rifles, it is a bench design... as such the angles help with repetitive hand placement and riding the bags. If you want a rounded more comfortable style, go with the At-One thumbhole stock, it adds the comfort factor to the adjustability. Everything sucks when it is used for the wrong purpose or improperly. I have had several of both At-One designs and appreciate the purposeful design features.

again i direct your attention to the photo just above your post, bench shooting or not, that is NOT comfortable!

How many have you shot? I have had half a dozen... they may not be "Sporter" comfortable, but they are not Sporters... what they are is repeatable... which is what they were designed for. You can't put a drag tire on your truck and then complain about crappy traction in snow.
 
I have one on a Rem custom 7STW love it vertical grip and you lay your thumb on side then you do not get your heart pulse bumping crosshairs you have to see what stock was meant for!

How would you rate the comfort level of the thumb hole atONE?

The thumbhole grip is very comfortable, the forend is still more angular than a classic sporter, but I do not find it particularly disagreeable. If comfort is at the top of your priority list but you also want adjustability, the thumbhole model is definitely the way to go.
