Holsters for more than one handgun

I have a few different handguns and would like to get a holster that can be adapted to work with them (at different times). Which of the holster types can you purchase adapters for to use for more than one handgun? I’m not really talking about the kydex moulded type.

The reason I’m asking is that occasionally on the EE a holster/magazine set up might appear for another handgun brand but with a relatively inexpensive adapter I could make it work for mine. Just want to know what to look out for.

Thanks.

Edit: I would eventually want to use a holster for competition but perhaps this post might be best placed in the pistol section. I’m not sure how to move it.

DAA Race holsters have an option to switch inserts.... not cheap thou....

Don’t mind “not cheap” especially if one holster can do multiple duty with various inserts. Might actually end up being cheaper than buying multiple kydex. Thanks for the suggestion.

Any others?

My low tech, cheap a55 solution was to use the old Uncle Mike's No. 3 holster I used for ATC carrying in the field. I used it for a 4" revolver and it came with a detachable flap.

I run it now as a universal holster on my 2.75" duty belt and it works well. Stays in place and I can use it for any 4" revolver and probably my snubbies as well.

Pistols it fits are my GLOCK17, NP-29 1911, Tokarev TT33, S&W 3914 Ladysmith, Astra Constable.

I like the multi use capability because you never know what you might need to carrying.

And it was cheap!

That looks like a good option for general range carry. I take it that wouldn’t be a good competition option?

I actually picked one of the Black Hawk Omnivore for my CZ P 10 F. and modified a small adaptor plate to attach it to the Safariland QLS system. so far works pretty good. it's thumb released so your not using your trigger finger to release the pistol out of the holster. your pistols need either one of the 2 approved lights for it to work or the locking plate that attaches to the lower picanty attachment. let me see if i can get some pics for you

If this is the holster that requires a part to attache to the handgun then it will not be allowed in IPSC Production or Production optics as you are not allowed to add or change anything on the handgun. PM me and I can explain in detail the DAA holsters with interchangeable inserts for different firearms.

I don't know that a fits-all holster is going to be satisfactory once a person gets into competition, for one thing it's contrary to human nature. Anyway, I use the G Code system, known to me as 'my plug-and-play,' as seen below. I no longer know of a Canadian dealer that will deal with civilians, but I imagine they're out there. One belt mounted wheel and you buy holsters to suit.

I use G-Code wheels as well. I have one that goes on a belt and another wheel mounted to my battle belt then a holster for each of my pistols. Lots of kydex holsters can take the adapter to work with the wheel so you have tons of options. I have holsters from G-Code and from Solely Canadian. Covers pretty much all my bases.

I would also be interested in a good universal holster for range use however for competition, if you are serious I think practicing with one pistol would yield the best results

You can order direct.

I used to run g-code but the safariland mls, and els systems are cheaper and just as good. I recently switch to safariland, you can get the safariland systems on amazon

Safariland GLS holsters can fit a wide variety of guns with good retention, but you might need two depending on what all guns you’re trying to make work. They’re pretty reasonable cost too.
