Hi, has someone modified their Mini 14 to address the dings in the cartridges on ejection ... and the quite impressive distance that empties are catapulted ?

I read on a US forum that this is a known issue, and that mods can be installed that mitigate the issues.

If someone has done this here, with parts available in Canada (either local or which can be imported) then please advise.

i got an ASI adjustable gas block from Brownells.
drops casings about 6' away, recoil feels a little milder.
actually helped the accuracy dept a bit too, action is less
violent on optics.
it's a bit costly but a good investment for a mini fan.

Better wait 'til after the election...if turdo wins hes going to ban it anyways!

My theory is that they'll never ban the Mini-14: while the gun-control mob will try to ban everything but, they'll leave the Mini-14 for last so as to keep having something to brayingly decry and thereby "justify" their continued existence....

I think youre reading to much into it....it'll be ban all you can while the banning is good! :(

Just my opinion but the adjustable gas block leaves a lot to be desired. Even the newer model with the detent can readjust itself while shooting and I was only ever able to find a few useful settings of the dozens and dozens there seemed to be. If you just shoot static, slowly off a rest it isn't bad. In the field or playing around it's not so great.

Also, last I checked which wasn't long ago ASI will not ship to Canada. You'll have to go through Brownell's.

The RCMP has had the mini-14 and 30 on their “must ban” list since Harper was PM.

The legislation that was passed this last spring (but has not been put into force yet) give the ability to the RCMP to change classification on any firearm they choose to, without judicial or parliamentary oversight.

That same piece of legislation made a new “as yet undefined” class of prohibited firearms.

What do you suppose that new 12x class of firearms is for?

Maybe I bought yours? I can't remember where I got mine from, someone on here, and I concur - smaller gas bushing is preferable.
Easier to setup, and you never have to wonder if you bumped the knob or if it backed off.
They would of had a winner if they had only a few settings that mimic 2 or 3 of their & factory gas bushing settings plus an off position.
Instead they give you a billion clicks. It's like free spinning scope turrets and hoping for the best.

not that it will matter any,,i dont know of any self respecting gun owner that would turns theirs in,LOL.it's not like they know who has them or where they are,Turdo can stick his ban where the sun dont shine, that's IF he miraculously manages to get in again,

I sold it barely used through the EE so it's possible. It's a great idea with ok execution. I definitely recommend a bushing over the gas block these days. I just wish I could find some!
