How light do coyotes get?

I was hunting outside Merritt this past weekend and I saw a canine a few hundred yards out, working the tree line on a powerline cut. Im not sure if it was a coyote or wolf though. The one thing I noticed was it was very light on colour - almost white. Do coyotes get that light? Or did I most likely see a wolf?

Thanks!

Sure do. Have seen lots in AB over the years. The lighter ones used to command a bigger dollar when they were sold. No idea if that's still the case or not.

Was in a tractor a week ago at the back of a hay field had a yote at 50 yadrs for 5 minutes broad side. No friggin gun....aaaahhhhh !

It was blonder that a yellow lab. Sun bleached I'd say .

What I saw was even lighter. At first glance I thought it was a deer butt (all I saw was a flash of white movement).

Thanks guys. My initial impression was coyote, but I wasn't close enough to really tell for sure. Still not certain what it was, but I now know I can't rule out coyote.

About as light as I've seen. The lighter the color, the higher the pelt value i'm told. This one died shortly thereafter. :)
