So, I bought a used Sako 85 Black Bear off the EE. It has the classic and frustrating ejection issues. Thank god it was a cheap price or I'd flame the seller in the feedback. Still might as this issue is obvious and wasn't disclosed. Have tried a new extractor spring, a new extrator Pin, and a new extractor. No good still. Unless you like your spent cartridges failing to eject properly.

Anyway, Next step is to buy a whole new bolt and start fresh. Now, I know you'll all say 'call sako / stoeger etc. They don't warranty this issue and frankly they are horrible to deal with in every way. I'll never buy another Sako product. Shoulda coulda bought a Tikka (Sako don't ruin them please) or Ruger.

So - Anyone have one or know where I can get a sako 85 30-06 bolt for the Black Bear rifle? Thanks.

If the ejected cases are hitting the scope and falling back in then a new bolt won't help as this is a design flaw in the 85's. Small diameter scope sometimes help and some have even turned the scope 90 degrees to put the elevation turret on the left and the windage turret on the the top , reversing the function of each. Is hard to believe a major manufacturer would not fix something like this before releasing the gun. Hope you find a solution.

Thanks for the input; No Sako should eject straight up; Many work properly and scope clearance is no issue; 1/3 of the time this rifle does eject perfectly at 45% but its the other 2/3 when it goes straight up. Faulty ejector on this unit; likely pays into the bolt itself and how the ejector fits as I've tried a new ejector kit to no avail. Apparently its a serious problem but Sako won't address it. Funny as my tikka has the best positive ejection with low mounted scopes. Same with my CZ and Rugers. Very disappointed with Sako. I' steer clear of them based on this issue alone.

I have heard some people tighten up the extractor some how to grip the case more closely that is supposed to help. Its sad a respected ( or once respected) manufacturer would leave its customers out to dry.

Yes, we are trying that, experimenting with new springs, pins and extractors. The cartridge is held very sloppy by the extrator which I think is contributing to the issue; Basically the ejection rail hits the rear of the cartridge at the 6 o'clock, causing the cartridge to seek the path of least resistance upon ejection; unfortunately the extractor seems like it isn't gripping enough....If it applied more pressure it would pull the cartridge to the side before releasing; But as its weak, the cartridge oftentimes simply pops straight up. Urgh. Its really unbelievable.

And now I know why people use the tikka action as the basis of so many custom builds. None of this nonsense.
