Well it's a nice chilly day and I have a few minutes to tell you about the infamous gopher tower. It all started when I noticed gophers in the chicken run eating feed. What these buggers did was dig under the fence and came up in the chicken run. That sounds simple, but the tunnel was a good 20 yards long and started in the pasture, where the grass was tall. Now when I stood up on the coop I could see them running around in the grass, but once I got to ground level they were hidden among the grass. So I needed to get up, about 12 feet up to be more precise.

It cost me $300 and a trip to the co-op lumber yard and princess auto. Took about 3 hours to build and voila! A tower a can pull with the quad and stand it using the winch. I mounted a small axle and a swing away hitch. I used a 'king post' for leverage to raise and lower it. I got the idea from sailboats. It sets up and tears down in less then 5 minutes. Now I can move from pasture to pasture, and anything in a 0-200 yard circle is easy pickins.

This little tower and a Savage A-17 with 25 round mags, no gopher stands a chance.
