Double Badger Chiappa - Rust on a BNIB gun? Is this normal?

Hello all!
I just received a rifle from a vendor here that says this is common. I haven't seen this in any of my rifles and was wondering if anyone else has a double badger that can confirm this is how they received it.

This is what the vendor replied back to me, I think its a load of BS as I am requesting a prepaid shipping to send this back. I haven't seen this on any other rifle including my little badgers.

""This is a follow up email regarding to the CHIAPPA DOUBLE BADGER . I just received reply from my co-worker. Because all packages directly from Italy which has humid climate. It is normal to have some rust. My co-worker also checked the other packages in the warehouse. I have to say the rest of shipment all have similar condition. So I recommend you can buy gun oil for the firearm.""

Just want to confirm that this isn't normal for Chiappa Double Badger or that they are trying to sell me a rusted item and hope I go away. It looks like there is rust between the barrel and action.

Yikes- Thats not the way you should get a rifle. The retailer might be right that it might clean up with some oil and time but that's a really sad excuse. Not what you should be dealing with out of the box.

Send it back, take your money, add to it, and buy from a manufacturer who has a QC department and a proper warehouse.
 
It's humid in many places, plus temperature shifts from hot to cold during transit will add some condensation.... hardly an excuse and the reason for oiling and greasing the guns from the factory.

All the Nork's I ever bought new came covered in grease, bit of a mess to clean but no rust.


Have you cleaned some of the crust off this section?

This. I'm not so sure this is rust, it looks more like caked on schmoo (some kind of preservative or hardened grease) with maybe a bit of discoloration from surface oxidation of the blueing. I'd wipe that #### off and see if everything looks fine underneath.

That vendor isn't being very helpful though.

Send it back and let us know the store that you are dealing with if they refuse or give you a difficult time. Occasionally new firearms will come a bit dirty from test firing or have a few blemishes on their stock or on the finish which is deemed acceptable but your rifle is definitely not!

When a business receive bad inventory, it is good business practice and just plan old common courtesy for them to try to resolve the situation with their supply chain or discount the rifles and sell them with full disclosure rather than passing the problem on to the customer.
 
It is leeching from bluing salts , bluing is a rusting process anywhere there cracks and crevices the salts gather .after a firearm is blued it should be soaked in a oil bath to nutrilize the salts . Part of his explanation has some merit if the firearm is stored in damp conditions it may activate the salts to some degree. The manufacturer did not take the time cure the firearm properly . Did hot caustic bluing for many years . It’s nasty crap

What struff55 said, but that's a problem for the store to sort out - not you. What else is there under that crud, pitting, loss of bluing or ?? Let them find that out.
It's supposed to be a brand new, unmarred, undamaged item. Send it back, and have the store pay for your return shipping cost.
 
A couple questions
1. If bought over the counter and you see this would you by it??
2.Arriving NIB are you expecting rust or blemishes?? This reduces value of rifle.
I WOULD SEND IT BACK.
ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE RETAILER ACCEPTING A RETURN SHOULD BE POSTED FOR ALL TO READ.
SHOULD BE POSTAGE PAID BY RETAILER.
WHO IS THE RETAILER???
