Has the SKS become the Canadian shooter's equivalent of the Ford 150?

Similar douchebags have always been around. They've been a thorn in the sides of firearms enthusiasts ever since I can remember noticing such things and the comments about it.

As for the SKS, I've used a couple under stressful conditions, as a weapon of choice and IMHO, they are not only adequate for their intended purpose but excel in the right hands of people who are familiar with their limitations. I've hunted with them and find them lacking for they type of hunting I like to do.

Considering what went into its design and how much it would cost to make them today, the SKS and its variants are a bargain and so is the surplus ammo that is available.

People turn their noses up at them because they are common and cheap. Also because they are so easily affordable some rifle snobs thumb their noses at them and call them all sorts of derogatory names.

The same things used to be said about Lee Enfields, Mausers and anything else that was milsurp. Some people still curl their noses up at anything milsurp.

Cyclone is absolutely right, anything that irritates Bill Blair is to be pursued.

I often wonder what cartridge is like "a ballistic twin" to the 7.62x39.... :yingyang:

Is the .30 Remington the only example?

Haha unlike my sks, I use the crap out of my f150. It's more like the 1911 of the gun world. It's a 2010 with the 5.4, I have put cast iron tensioners and the melling high volume oil pump in it to cure the rattle. Its slightly modified with 4.10 gears, and limited slip carrier's front and back to spin 34" tires, fox shocks In the rear and bilstine 6112 heavy duty coil covers in the front. Been through moab Utah, Arizona, Nevada... done allot of solo overland with it. It's been a decent truck, just not for people who cant do some of the fixes themselves.

This is a good point, the Norc and Turk shotguns are soulmates to the SKS. Lots of working gun for the money.

I'd trust an SKS over a turkish shotgun.

Yeah they are cheap, but I wont have a Turkish shotgun in the safe or beside me in my tent. A mossberg or 870 is not ridiculously expensive and can be made short relatively inexpensive if you find a deal on a short barrel.

Yes you can get alot of gun for not much money and it would make a good range toy. But I'd rather trust something that's proven.

The SKS works well for what it is.

If you guys knew much I paid for my last IZH 2008 import non-refurbished '54 Izhevsk which also happens to be about as new (probably unissued) as you will ever find, you would be making comparisons to BMW's lol

I am sure I am still the reining champ. Holding the crown since 2012 when I bought a similar IZH 2008 import '54 Tula For $420. Think double that now.

Why? Because they meet my needs and I like them alot.

The SKS is an awesome rifle. Reliable as hell, tough as a babushka, and as simple as peasant farm life. The F-150 is a good truck and the op needs to eat a snickers.

Send me a few snickers and I'll enjoy them.

I think that Justin will probably ban your SKS first and maybe your F150 after that. They can both do damage in the wrong hands. Don't blame me. I didn't vote for him.

I’d like to see him tell the thousands of indigenous Canadians that use their sks to put food on the table that their rifle is now illegal to hunt with

It's a dumping of milsurp onto the market. It's the 21st century version of the Lee Enfield. I have no problems with it.

I had a Russian laminated SKS in the early 80's.... a real beauty. I was collecting red rifles, and there was not too many of those around in Canada...... I was 18 and was mostly buying collectable firearms.

In 2019, I do not see why I would have one .... they have a purpose....giving young lads the opportunity of shooting a cheap gun with cheap surplus ammo.....

But when you can afford higher end firearms.....I dont see the point.

I rather shoot anything else...but an SKS

That's a rather Fudd thing to say. If you can't see the value in shooting a fun, inexpensive, reliable and almost indestructible rifle that you can shoot any where. Well sir I feel sorry for you.

Look up pictures from the Oka Mohawk stand-off. Do you think they still have their AK-47s? Do you think anyone went in and took them away?

My sks has proven very reliable with regular maintainence. The opposite of the f150 that left me stranded at the top of a mountain pass in the middle of January.
