How to stop people from stealing a pop up blind?

About a week ago, some lowlife stole my popup. I dont have time to build a permanent stand in that location, as I need it to be huntable by this weekend. Suggestions as to how I can prevent theft of a second blind?

(I did get pix of the thief, but haven't caught him yet).

If it can't be hidden better and rando's wander the area, your options are limited. Most pop ups have ropes/cordage for helping secure them. I have replaced that with aircraft cable i had. It makes it harder to run off with, but not impossible. You just need to make sure you are attached to some solid anchors, ideally with the cable hidden. You also need to attach to a spot on the blind which isn't easy to remove. Eg... dont just attach it to a peg loop. It needs to attach to a hub connector (or similar spot).

Even that is only going to get the casual theives to leave it.
Someone determined is going to get around that, or get frustrated and end up destroying it.

Playing devils advocate. If your pop-up blind is on your private property and someone stole it that’s absolute BS. If your blind Is on crownland some people might find that offensive. It might be considered by others that you were laying claim to that area. Under no circumstances do I think that gives someone the right to steal your stuff. So I guess what I’m saying is best way to keep your stuff from getting stolen if it’s on crownland is to take it with you when you go.

I just use cheap burlap and twine and 2x2s.. mixed in with branches and leaves .. lose it, no big deal.. and noone is wanting to take it.

There it is.

While I can not offer any actual advice, I do leave notes inside/on my gear in the event that it gets stolen. It changes absolutely nothing but I'd like to think that it pisses off the human garbage who stole my stuff and makes them think of how much of a piece of poo he/she is.

I normally use strongly worded statements and hope they take it VERY personally.

It wasn't this.

I have a pic of the thief.

It was another hunter.

Go farther into the woods?

That does suck though to have it stolen. But at the same time one may consider it littering and removed it from a wild life habitat ( thats their excuse, really they are stright up stealing it).
But Ive seen lots of blinds over the years left in the wood as trash when the hunters stoped using them.

Other then going where others dont go. Im not sure how you could stop them really... personally i wouldnt take something that isnt mine.

Take the blind with you when you leave. Pops up take down just as easy. Leave it behind on anything other than private property and consider it gone.

I leave my pop up out during the turkey season on private property because I know its fairly secure to do so. I have a game cam up all year round so Im pretty comfortable with the traffic the area gets. If it ever goes missing, I wouldn't be surprised, but I’d also be in a good position to be able to locate the thief fairly quickly. If I wasn't that comfortable with the property, I’d never leave it behind

It's not possible to go further into the woods. It definitely wasn't considered trash--there's tons of other trash here (flood drops it there in the spring) and none of that is ever taken. I have a photo of the guy walking by at 8 AM with a bag of apples to go hunting, it appears (quite likely poaching, as he's wearing no orange, and is not carrying a bow in bow season, and a deer showed up shortly afterwards with what appeared to be a varmint bullet wound). Then at 12:15, same guy is photographed carrying the blind away. He knew exactly what he was doing.

I've hunted here with other guys for three years and this is the first time I have a photo of someone else. It's a very hard place to get to, surrounded by thick brush, cliffs and water. The only other people going there are hunters or people up to nefarious deeds. This guy appears to have been doing both. It's government land, not private.

The trouble is that it's almost impossible to use a pop up here unless the deer are habituated to it. It's a close spot, archery only, and the deer can see you easily without a blind. No big trees for stands or other purposes. The only way to really hunt it is with a pop-up. My only other real option is to leave a base in there permanently, that the pop-up ties to when I'm in there, with a MASSIVE brush pile in front so the deer can't see the blind whether or not it's in there.

" Leave it behind on anything other than private property and consider it gone. "
At first I thot this was a bit of a harsh statement , but re reading it , what it really says to me is that there,s a lot F , in A Holes in our sport hobby , that would think nothing of damaging , stealing another hunters property . Just because they can .
OP I would post his pic on every forum / site that you can with date and time and rough location FB Twitter etc and send it to the local MNR offices too
Put the pic up in local gas stations stores etc
It might not bring any results at all , but at least you made an effort

Depending on your location and relevant hunting regulation... it might be poaching and reporting it to the MNR would be a start. Most of the crown lands near me, has a no blind policy. You can't build one and you can't leave one behind.

after that if you own the land you can put up no trespassing signs around the property. In Ontario a simple red dot will suffice.

It's a sh!tty thing to take someone else's blind. About the only thing you can do is chain it to something.

Clearly mark with large letters and permanent marker your name and phone number on the inside of the popup. It might put the thief off if it is clearly marked as well as provide proof that the blind is yours if you manage to find out who took it. Take a photo of the ID markings and popup as well.

Thieves love to steal items that are not marked. If you report an item stolen to police - the first thing they will ask you is "Did you mark it?"
If not, they quickly lose interest in getting involved.
