Advice on a good IPSC pistol for a lefty

Smith and Wesson M&P is really the only choice, Production Div. no safety either.
 
then you are going to be spending some bucks on customizing a gun. you're either gonna need a 1911 or a Tanfoglio. the Tan at least is easily convertible to lefty happy, the mag release that is. it also has ambi safties. beyond that you could spend a ton of cash on a 1911/2011 of some sort, and get one of those funky ambi setups for the mag release.
 
We have a SouthPaw that shoots a CZ setup for left hand.
The more matches I shoot the more I'm drawn to the CZ's. (I currenlty shoot an XD in Stadard div and am thinking upgrade for next year)

Kind of a long story... I needed to get a gun quick to do my black badge and the XD was in stock. Cost was also a concern and the XD came with a holster, mag holder and extra mags were cheap. I also thought I would be shooting production but it turns out that I would have been the only one in the province. Rumors of production starting next year though so I may still stick with the XD. Time will tell...

If you are looking for a Standard gun, mine is for sale in the EE. If you are interested, I'd take your XD as partial payment. It's not listed but I have everything you need Holster ect. to be competitve with the Eagle.

I'm not a competitive shooter (yet), but as a lefty, I don't have any issues with the magazine button being on the left side of the frame (as in a righty gun). I don't have any issues with the slide release being on the wrong side for me as both controls I can easily reach with my index finger. The ambi-safety is about the only thing I require.
 
well, as one of those right handed guys who likes the mag release on the right hand side, I like the Smith M&P - shoots well with either hand and won't break the bank, or the CZ85- same story.
 
I'm a lefty shooter with short trigger finger I uses both in Standard and Open STI Gun's, I do have to change my grip to press the release...not a big deal......buying a pistol because it has a ambi release is nuts.....practice can and will cure any problems, mag change for me these day the new mag is in the gun before the used one touch the ground (or so I'm told, because I do look at the old one just the hole)any faster does do much in most stages. Just buy a gun that fit your hand, that appeal to you, that there is stuff like holster and pouches readily available....and practice (dry/without ammo) lots and lots of practice after you do your BB.....

Like anything practices is the key of success, no big secrets there.
 
If you want to shoot open or STD. I would leave the mag release on the left side and learn to use your trigger finger to hit the mag release. Do not get a oversize button on the mag release . You will inadvertently drop the mag when you do not want to.

I shoot open left handed I have not changed any thing on my gun to help being left handed. Almost all open and STD guns come with amby safety's so that is not a big deal. The best reason for not changing the mag release is you can NEVER be called for finger on the trigger wile doing a mag change.

You do not have to spend a ton of money to shoot open or STD. The best advice I could give if this is the way you want to go is : Spend the money once and get what you want.
