Looking for some suggestions on good rifles for bear protection when working up north. Maybe used for some bush target practice as well.

I'm also wondering if buying the gun through my incorporated company would be seen as a legitimate write off in the CRA's eyes to protect the guys I work with... Have had many bears on location before

I go with marlin that’s timed in 4570. Less moving parts and can be taking down if required.
Another option is baikal sxs in 4570

Any big bore lever will suit the purpose well. I personally know a handful of bears who will tell you a single .44 magnum round is enough.

This right here. JM only. Lots come through the EE. Only advantage a 450 has is potent factory ammo. The reality is, you can reload for such a fraction of factory price, almost all would be reloading.

My first choice would be a 4570. Second choice would be a henry in 41mag. Light short 10 rnd tube low recoil plenty of smack up close
A pump or sxs 12ga offer alot of versatility as well

I think it's a valid write off... Bear spray is a joke where we are...

I looked into this and tried it quite a few years ago (don't think the taxation definitions change much over time) but ended up being turned down. If I had owned the company (or proprietorship) and required a gun for safety (if I owned the company I could write my own "safety manual" with a "personnel protection definition) then it would have passed or if my job description had specifically noted a "requirement to protect myself or other workers" it would have passed. Without those two requirements being met, it is just another personally owned item.

Savage 99 C in .308 . Ammo everywhere , pointed bullets removable mag and with today’s Bullet construction it will what you need .

If lever then Marlin 1895 sbl or gsbl 45/70. If got time to look for used one find a stainless JM. Add a safety delete and a WWG bear proof ejector. If your eyes are no good can add a low power scope in QD rings. The marlins are quick to tear down for complete cleaning after being out in the goo.

Ahh Hell, I’ll play as I’m still proud of my new rig - Here is my version, love being able to keep both eyes open when swinging it. Since replaced the rings with some Warne Maxima QD’s.....
