Hi,

I have a GP100 on the way and I want to buy some speed loaders. What make is everyone using and why? Based on what I have read, I am leaning towards Safariland, but I know HKS is very popular as well.

I have never used speed loaders before so I am keeping an open mind.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

The HKS are simpler to load, the Saf. ate quicker to unload, I find my HKS will work with larger grips, than the safariland do, but that could just be on mine.
If I had to buy just one ,the Safariland is a better seller.
The HKS you turn the know to load and unload, so with them you have to hold the cylinder from turning, the Safar., you just push straight down, so if a speed match, that is faster.
I don't do speed, I just use them at the range so I don't have to mess with loose rounds.
HKS are easier to find.
At one time , (still?) the RCMP would have had boxes of these things, for K frame. Amy RCMP guys here?

Anyone know whether any store beside Amazon is selling the Safariland Comp III ? Amazon is out of stock and it does not looks like they will re-stock it.
It does not seem like there is anyone in Canada that have the Comp III in stock.
And the usual source like Brownells does not ship Safariland product to Canada.

I had HKS and Safari COMP 2 for my K-frame S&Ws (sold several years ago) as well as Safariland COMP 3 for my 686 which also works for the GP100.

I was happy with the HKS before I tried the COMP 3. Both brands work best when you reload by positioning the open cylinder front end pointing straight down. But the HKS requires a twist of the knob and the assistance of gravity to drop the cartridges into the chambers. The COMP 3 simply needs you to align all six cartridges into their respective chamers, then simply push down the cylinder of the speedloader and the plunger....the COMP 3 literally spits out the cartridges with enough energy to fully chamber each cartridge. Watch videos of Jerry Mikulek.

The COMP 2 also spits out the cartridges and it is much more compact than the 3, so you need a more precise and positive grip on the speedloader cylinder. For speed games, the COMP 3 is much faster because you got more speedloader to grab onto.

I have not seen any Comp 2 or 3 in stock anywhere, wonder id still in production?
I have not check distributors.

I checked Amazon.ca and Brownell's which are about the only ones to ship to Canada and they are out-of-stock.
I believe they still are in production but there is no hurry to re-order.

Probably,
But Ruger GP-100 is compatible with S&W "L" frame only.

SafariLand comp II's & comp III's for "L" frames are the most popular.
Don't discount the HKS loader either. In a no stress reload like at the 3 or 7 yard line, they can be used for the initial charging of the revolver.

Considering muscle memory, it would be wise to have them all the same, so you always function them the same.

you can order these directly from 5star in texas last time i checked.
i love mine!

and these are for my GP100

I much prefer the Jetloaders over the Safariland 111's, just personal preference. The biggest advantage for me was their exposed springs which assist in making a firm hold the the speedloader. Either though will certainly do. Both work the same way and are much faster than the twist type.

Take Care
