Rechamber 30-06 options

I have a tikka chambered in 30-06 the rifling is in rough shape I’m thinking of rebarrelling the rifle to an aftermarket barrel and possibly rechambering to another cartridge. Is there only certain cartridges that a 30-06 bolt and action can go to?

You have all kinds of options if you are going to rebarrel
35 Whelan,338 06 , 270 ,25 06 etc.

Anything that will feed from the magazine and has the same head size as the 30-06 makes an easy change...

The old 30-06 Ackley Improved widens the diameter at the shoulder and changes the angle on the neck. If you are going to cut a new chamber with the same bore, this is an old solution.

I believe 98 sporter barrels fit 98's but there are two thread sizes... one about 1 inch by 12 tpi, the other about 1.1 inches by 12 tpi.

I believe Tikkas threads are no where close to either of the 98 barrels.

Have you tried shooting a group? Rough looking barrels can shoot great.

who does reboring in Canada?
is it cost effective?
would a sporter rifle barrel be thick enough after reboring?

I always wanted to convert a Rem 7600 carbine pump to 338-06 for a unique bush carbine with range and oomph.

Depends on what you want the new cartridge to do. Lots of good suggestions above. 35-06 sounds interesting. 35 Whelen, or 9.3x62 if you want some oomph to it.

IMR 4320 is the powder for 200-210gr bullets.Don't go improved .

I didn't - and i will try some 4320 - it also Burns WELL in my 416 Taylor Kind of a FORGOTTEN powder these days it is ! RJ
