In spite of the announcements coming up, figured I need to add a few more to the collection. These three are standing out to me but since I’m not made of money I’ll only be choosing 1......... possibly 2

BCL102- early generations had reliability issues, not as nicely finished as the Troy. Also heard some AR parts aren’t plug an play (furniture, charging handle etc etc) cheapest out of the 3

Troy102- is it just a BCL102 with a different name, nicer finish and a higher price?

Stag10- ??????? School me, read something about a certain gas system that is a odd length and hard to find parts for?

I know there’s gobs of threads about these rifles and I’m doing my best to sift through them, sometimes I make impulse buys lol. So looking for the generalized, brief summary of the 3 and any first hand experience comparisons.

What is with the dramatic price difference for the BCL102 on the EE? I’ve seen them as cheap as $975 all the way up to $2300?????? Site sponsors are letting these go for cheaper, North Sylvia $1399, can’t remember the other suppliers name but had a post Oct 21st Trudeau special that was around $1300 taxes/shipping included.

I’m hoping to keep the rifle purchase in the $1500 region

stag 10 for me. tried and true as far as the gas tube I have used the standard length ar tube nothing special for ar10 and have had no problems. I have 3 rifles so far like this 308, 6.5, and 243

if you put a fulton armory/criterion barrel on your stag 10 you need a longer gas tube. This is not the case for the majority of barrels available (dpms pattern)
you'd be hard pressed to find a Stag10 for 1500 or less though

I got the newer version of the bcl102 and its been very nice to me. The stag is overpriced and The troy is too new to know enough about it yet.
there is a new bcl102 coming out something like the mk7?

The quality level is not comparable. Stag is more expensive because is much better made. I tried two different BCL, gave up due to constant issues with feeding and accuracy. The Troy is better than the BCL, but that's not saying much.

I have extensive experiece building and shooting 2 Stag 10's now. I've had a bit of experience with 2 early BCL102's. I looked at a Troy in a store.

Stag 10 is easily the best hands down. Forged receiver set, best parts compatibility.
BCL102 some work, some are complete garbage. 6061 (soft!!) receiver set. I'd avoid at all costs, I wouldn't even take a free one, cause it would be a waste of space in my safe.
Troy 102. Looks like they took the early Gen 1 NEA/BCL 102 reciever pattern and didn't change anything. The one I looked at in the store had the buffer retainer drilled in the wrong sport and the bolt catch pin hole was half shrouded, so there is no way you could take out the bolt catch pin with a punch. You'd need a really long drill bit to drill it out. I was disapointed, I was hoping that a reputable company like Troy would at least fix the glaring issuies with the BCL102 before they sent them to the market.

Well I got to say the intel on both 102’s is depressing, but I appreciate the honesty guys. Maybe I’ll have to dig a little deeper into my pockets, flip couch cushions and crack some piggy banks to get the stag.

Any other decent semi 308 boomers someone can suggest?

Decent semi auto 308 that boomers would suggest lol .... Rem 742 ? I'm not a boomer though and it's not a decent gun haha

Ok, I’m trying to remain hopeful here, how is Troy’s customer service/warranty?

Of coarse there’s the Swiss and 180b but pricey, not wanting m14/m305. There’s got to be a few more AR - ish options out there. Not to pumped to feed the fuel of companies mass producing junk and using customers and customers money as R&D with little to no customer service.

C’mon men, pull yourselves together, this was the wife’s idea

I have the famae (a long with the stag and troy and a m305) haven't shot the stag/troy yet but the famae is a great gun and super light compared to the others and accurate. Only real downside is lack of spare/aftermarket parts. but I figure if something ever really happened I could just take it to the smith. And like mentioned theres also the M1A/m305, Stag and famae would be my first choice though. In reality for the type of shooting most of us do you can't go wrong with any of them so its really just personal preference...as for my my preference is to avoid nea/bcl at all costs. Theres also the keltec rfb if you don't mind bullpups.

Some pictures I found on the internet! 3 very viable options! 1Kel-tec RFB very maneuverable, stag 10 (shown in 6.5) and a norc socom18 in blackfeather stock also a great rifle!

I have my fair share of 223 toys, but I badly want a 308 semi. Seems from my research that most of the bcl102 problem were from early runs and using customers for R&D. The value vs customer service is more than I’m willing to gamble I think.

I’m having a hard time believing that Troy would put out something with such reliability issues with there name. NEA on the other hand doesn’t give one shyte about their customer once they have your money, to much bad rep and they become BCL.......... How long till the next name change?

Stag10 - looking to be a little richer than my blood.

Any world on a 308 version of the wk108? I’d happily throw my money at that as I’m very happy with the 223 platform and they have the customer service to back it up.

A norc socom is on the short list as well, but damn that thing just looks heavy

just wait for the next stag10 receiver sets and then look for good deals on the parts to build it as time and budget suits you.
start saving ;)

Just for giggles I went to the BCL website to check out the 102 because I was thinking of 308 NR rifles like you.

They're onto version 7 according to the website. Version 7! In 18(?) months. That's a hard pass thanks.

The M14 is 11 pounds 13 oz without the bipod, heavy but serviceable. I would say if you are dead set on a ar10 ish find a gunsmith to give you a hand buy a stag10 receiver set, a barrel that you like and handgard and you can do the rest afterwards by yourself!
