A pistol calibre AR... in 7.62x25!

just an FYI thing the P762 mags fit the mag well very well and would take very little to make work M1 carbine mag fits to but would have to be blocked to 5 rounds where the pistol mag can be 10

That's some good knowledge to have, thanks for the photos. I just discovered from another thread how inexpensive a decent quality 3D printer actually is so I may bite the bullet on one and design a mag block.

I was going to buy a different lower for this project so I don't have to worry about swapping buffers and that kind of nonsense then the Liberals came out with their nonsense and I can't find a lower to save my life again. Consider this a WTB ad for a beater lower you'd like to get rid of. Politicians man... EDIT: got one. Thanks folks.

You are right the barrel isn't prohibited the firearm is

LESS THAN 18″/457mm BARREL LENGTH RULES:

CC s. 84(1) “prohibited firearm” (d): If the barrel has been SHORTENED to less than 18″/457mm, after leaving the factory, “by sawing, cutting or ANY other alteration or modification” that forces the firearm into the “prohibited firearm” class.

If he took a Remington 700 30 cal barrel and manufactured an AR barrel from that, he's essentially making a barrel blank from a Remington 700 barrel (as he is cutting off the chambered portion), and is then making an AR barrel from the barrel blank.

No real progress. I was dinking around at the range and had success feeding from an unmodified pmag by just placing the rounds in the middle of the mag instead of at the rear. I may just add a block at the back of the mag and see what happens. I've been away at work so I have had zero time to work on this.

The specific wording is "a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration..." which means if it was once a rifle or shotgun, it cannot be made back into a blank, or un-made from being a firearm barrel.

A rifle barrel can be cut to any length (above105mm) and used on a firearm under 660mm, but not above 660mm.

A 10/22 barrel can be cut down to 5 inches and used on a Ruger Charger, but not on a 20/22 carbine.

A M4 barrel can be cut down to 5 inches and used on a LAR15 pistol under 660 mm, but not over 660mm.

The barrel is not prohibited, but could make the firearm as a whole prohibited.

Of course that is just my interpretation of the actual CC wording YMMV.

Direct from the Criminal Code:

prohibited firearm means(a) a handgun that

(i) has a barrel equal to or less than 105 mm in length, or

(ii) is designed or adapted to discharge a 25 or 32 calibre cartridge,

but does not include any such handgun that is prescribed, where the handgun is for use in international sporting competitions governed by the rules of the International Shooting Union,

(b) a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,(i) is less than 660 mm in length, or

(ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,

(c) an automatic firearm, whether or not it has been altered to discharge only one projectile with one pressure of the trigger, or

(d) any firearm that is prescribed to be a prohibited firearm;

I know what the criminal code says. I don't think you get the point I was making. Additionally, interpreting that section the way you are interpreting it means that installing a barrel that is not the original barrel and is of less than 457mm on an AR makes that firearm prohibited as it falls within the "any other alteration" category.

If it will make you feel better though, next time I'm chatting with one of the FRT lab guys I'll ask them what their opinion is on the idea of re-manufacturing a Remington 700 barrel to use on an AR. I'm fairly confident of what their answer will be but it never hurts to ask.

Do you want to make a twin ?

I'm going to be working like a dog until April at least. But once I have the time, I can definitely make another.

No progress still. Any hours I get at home have been reserved for family time.

I have an endo mag coming for to find out if it will fit the bill or require too much modification. If so back to the drawing board. This will be a 5 round deal only as it will fit into a pmag.

So... I come home to some real nonsense ref: ARs. Whatever. Still plugging away at this even if I can't test fire it.

So I bought an endomag off Brownells and it's a slick and clever design. I was expecting some serious modification to it to make the much longer 7.62x25 case for in something designed for 9mm.

With a 9mm round in there.

Until I saw this bit at the back.

And it's easily removable. As in fits into a little slot of the floor plate and comes right off with zero fuss. Nice. It's like they saw me coming.

And now 7.62x25 fit in the mag.

Well that was easy. I guess I should put my upper back together with the new barrel I did for myself and see if it will feed running it by hand.
