Actually that probably poor advise if he has a antlerless tag...the thin horns of a small buck can be very hard to spot on a mule or equally hard not to spot behind those big ears especially at the distances encountered on a prairie vista hunt...take the best glass you have available.
 
Ok you are supposed to be sure of your target before you point or fire a shot down range , haha
And if the antlers are 4” or smaller you can put your doe tag on it , I don’t think he’s goi to be shooting 600 yards lol maybe tho sounds like he has a ton of experience, you think by the ? He’s asking?
And what makes you feel you can say my advise is poor ?
There is a lot of really good people with a lot of fantastic advice and experience on here and then there is the odd “####”

Guys, I am asking question to be as much prepared as possible and it also helps me wait before the trip.
I have a good 30 years of hunting experience, but all this except 2 trips to SK have been in the East were shots rarely exceed 150yds.
That being said, as a competitive shooter I am use to shoot to 800yds so 600 is no big deal if needed. ;-)

You pointed out something interesting. Out East, antlerless refer to does and fawns. Are you saying that in Alb any animal with 4'' or less antlers can be legaly shot with antlerless license?

You are correct on the 4" or less is defined as an "antlerless" animal and your tag can be used. From the definitions in AB's regs:

"Antlered - a white-tailed deer, mule deer, moose or elk having an antler exceeding 10.2 cm (4 in.) in length.

Antlerless - a white-tailed deer, mule deer, moose or elk that is not "antlered" (as defined above)."
