The GSG 16 modification thread

The only thing I can say about that is my sight is adjustable for windage just like the stock sight. It is not adjustable for elevation at the rear, just as the stock sight isn't, because this is a .22LR and a rear sight with different apertures for 100, 300, 500m is absolutely pointless for a rimfire rifle and will likely cause more problems than provide actual functional improvement. There is literally nothing stopping me from creating a drum that rotates except that it would be pointless.

The main upside would be if it was metal, for drop protection.

Different load. I have all kinds of brands and velocity of .22lr.

I get what you are saying, but gsg also sees thatbtoo thats why they ship the guns with 5 front sight posts

Hence the rotating drums leave the front sight, use the rear to compensate for different load

Am I mistaken in believing the H&K diopter sight only has 4 different apertures for 4 different distances? How exactly are you compensating for a small change in POI between different loads by changing rear apertures? Is there some kind of adjustment in the H&K 9x rear sight beyond just changing apertures? Honest question, I've never owned a rifle with the H&K 9x rear sight...

I'd like to produce something that actually works for the purpose people intend to use it for. I don't want to make something that just looks nice in pictures on the internet.

Its an airsoft version, i will be really suprise if they do in fact change POI greatly.

For me, it is the novelty of having an operational ish rear drum

Needs a tool, but can do fine tune adjustment.

Thanks for posting that OK, I guess it makes sense that the Germans would figure out a way to make their sights precise..... :)

As far as 100.300, 500 meters being pointless on a .22lr.... why not simply use the elevation adjustments for typical .22lr ranges ie 25-50 yards, 100, and 200?

Certainly could do different apertures more appropriate for rimfire. My comments were directed at adapting a H&K 9x airsoft sight which is a copy of a 9mm sight with 100-500m apertures. Was just trying to make the point that a “functional” diopter is not truly functional, or superior to the stock sight, if it’s designed for a different caliber and firearm.

In all likelihood I will stick with copying the exact geometry of the stock rear sight and keep the windage adjustment in the rear but leave the elevation adjustment to be handled by the stock front blades. I don’t see a huge benefit to re-inventing the wheel here. Not convinced I have the time to bench test multiple apertures or that I will be able to sell enough of them to truly cover my time.

What length is your barrel? Looks good! What did you do for the short barrel?

It's an odd length like 8.8 inches or something my friend in the us had it made for his 522 but he never whent through with the SBR paperwork so I got it from him last Time I was down there. It's a proper made barrel not a modified one
