I've always recommended these boots for tough use but I have to recant my recommendation as my newer pair ( 2 years) just separated at the seam of the sole , by separating I mean torn not stitching. I have them at a shoe repair place who will patch them but can't guarantee them to be water proof after the fix. I'll test them when I get them and if they leak they will become expensive dry duty boots. At the price point these boots are at I expected them to last as long as my previous pair but perhaps the quality has gone down or maybe I got a lemon. I am using my old boots which are near worn out but hopefully will get me through the season.

The boots were always cleaned and treated with mink oil as per the instructions after each use and I would never screw up a pair of boots by heat drying them or even forced air. My first pair lasted 7 years of hard use with the same care. The shoe repairman said the leather where the tops sewed to the sole was very thin ( this is inside so not a wear issue) and so tore out from the stitching.

Shoo-Goo.
Did that to my Setter boots.
Still going strong.

The tear was about an inch and a half long and this seems like a lot to ask of shoo goo, the repairman is going to splice in some leather and reattach it to the sole, he says it will be ugly but strong , much like me in my youth.
