most accurate rifle with factory ammo

Just about any modern hunting rifle these days is capable of excellent accuracy with good quality factory ammo.

Savgae, Remington, Winchester, Howa, Ruger, Tikka, Sako, Mossberg etc etc etc all produce MOA or sub MOA accuracy with good ammo. I've shot all of these with good results.

Pick the gun you like, in the cartridge you like, and go shoot it lots, and you will be better off wit accuracy than 90% of the custom rifles from 30 years ago.

This. ^

Don't know about Vanguards, but ive had multiple ruger centerfires, no.1's and m77 Hawkeyes, every single one of them was capable to shoot sub moa with the right factory ammo.

I own an accurate 700 rem in 22br, 338 lpm Savage, Sako in 270, 30-06 and few more, fell into the Sako, Tika bs for a bit...lol. 17 fireball rem 700, Heavy barrel Ruger mk77's and an older good one in 220 swift, my favorite... and several Savage 12's and 16's heaviest and best they make.... Tikka and Axis, comparable quality shoot as well out to 600 meters not many like to hear that but it's true. So I find the most accurate gun I own is the one that preforms best on the day. Overall Savage is the huge winner, no big news here but on a good day my SAKO, with pristine conditions does it too so, for me, same as anyone else in the accuracy game, any Savage wins 90% of the time. Funny I thought money would buy me accuracy 20 years ago but not the case, Savage axis, cheapest you can buy, stock scope out of the box Canadian tire gun... We took it with us on an 875 meter shoot and after a few sighter's at 200 successfully shot it to 400 meters 8 out of 10 on a 12 inch plate.... Winchester 40 round value packs… you just never know.... Hard to say anything for sure. After some reflection in this post I would say my Savage 12 in 308 dedicated Target 12 lbs factory gun!

Do the axis have a free floated barrel?

all I mentioned or use do have the barrel free floated, that said if you squeeze the cheap plastic stocks from all the company's, or pull back into your shoulder the stocks are so thin they touch sometimes, again on most of them all, repeat but some days I am surprised by the results that why I record all shots....

Huh? Having a bad morning? I am under the impression that the S2 has a gaurenttee of sub moa... so the Ruger outshooting them is good news, for me, as I just got one... Not sure what I said there to draw your ire

Sorry there bud....:)

I dis-agree I think there is a portion of the shooters, old or new that think money buys accuracy, or there is that one gun that shoots better. I think its important to make people aware that there is no, for sure in anything here. I have done well with high and low priced as I mentioned before. Not everyone is as educated on this matter so I think what positive information we can add to the conversation is good for all new and old.

Of course not, and I have owned and shot hundreds... the suggestion is mostly regurgitated sixth hand online blather.

I have, and do own many ruger M77, all generations shoot good to great. Bonus is they all sell for less than many other bolt actions in the EE.....Savages are the exception.

The rifle that sent me down the magnum rabbit hole was a Savage 110 in 7mag. Have never shot so brutal a recoiling rifle....i know only a 7mag. Believe the problem was stock design. First shot was accurate, second maybe on the paper, third you would be lucky to hit a 4x8 plywood. Lots of guys puffed out their chests, to prove me wrong, most declined a second shot.

Quick edit to some posts.i had not read. I had a 10/22, it shot 4 into my little finger nail size, but one 2" left or right. Sold it. That's not the OP's question. Early first generation M77 tang safeties, used outsourced barrels, some were as accurate as shotguns, others were gems. Would bet this is the source of internet myth.

Buy what you like. Every maker puts out awesome guns, some are made Monday morning by employees with Super Bowl hangovers.

Take the time to locate and purchase a Husqvarna/Carl Gustaf - 1900 Action - with a 24" barrel in .25-06 shooting 85grn.
Spend as much on your glass as your rifle or more...
Practice, practice...

You would be hard pressed to improve on a stock sporting rifle with factory ammo at 400 yards +++ IMHO.....

One thing none of us has mentioned is a nice Lee Enfield Sporter. They can be had for $250+ with scopes and parker hale stocks or monte carlo. Ammo is widely available, and will kill everything in North America
