Making my GSG-16 look like an MP5SD

I don't see why you should stop.

I operate a small locksmith shop in south western Ontario. I cannot spend my days on the internet playing salesman trying to explain to each prospective customer why they should pay me double what the Thingiverse 3D printer farms will charge for the knock offs.

Even though what I offered was aesthetically closer to the MP5SD, I can't really compete with free.

I say still sell and screw what people on reddit think. People always buys the original quality product. My buddy 3D prints and he comments on his good your product was. I think I'm going to give my forearm some passes with truck bed liner spray to protect the ribs a little bit.

I agree and I was going to pick up another hand guard in the future and was looking forward to what else you would come up with.

I am pretty shocked that people would ask let alone push for you to release your designs.

I was thinking of doing the same thing to try to get a rubberized texture on the handguard. Haven’t decided on what to use yet, let us know how it turns out.

Funny you mention rubberized, I just ordered a roll of black TPU which is much more elastic than PLA. I was going to make a case for my kid's tablet and also try to print one of the handguards with it and see how it turned out. I'll post the results when I get around to it. I'm not sure if the fine detail of the ridges will turn out as well as they did with PLA but it's worth a test.

Truth is I'm just a bit tired of being a slave to the damn 3D printer. I'd like to take some time for other projects without stressing about getting orders sent out.

Looks like I missed the boat. I haven’t bought a new gun in years and I was going to pull the trigger on this gsg solely based on your upgrades you were making. Ie the rail delete and especially the hand guard..... I bet you worked your butt off to provide the ones you did and who knows maybe you will get snowed in this winter and we can get a few more out of you.

You would think demand would have slowed down after the initial rush and finally give you some down time. I know I (and likely others) don't give a damn about free substandard stuff from reddit. I buy quality and honestly the items you put out are top shelf. IMHO If I were you I would just would just run a slow production rate. So what if folks have to wait a long time to get there stuff. It beats not getting it or buying the other guys crap. We waited forever to get the damn gun, we can wait for the parts.

Cheers

I understand that, and appreciate the getting up early and starting a new print. But the fact is, you don't need to do that. Just print them on your own time and let customers know that.

For the rubberized texture I was going back and forth in my head about trying plastidip, or flex seal or some kind of truck bed liner; figured worst case I would just get another handguard from you if I was not happy with the results. Now I’m going to have to be much more careful! Lol

Anyways hopefully after a break maybe you’ll decide to take it on again; do it on your own time frame no need to rush. Like others have said seems most here are willing to wait and pay for quality pieces. Even if you don’t sell anything else I’d like to see what you come up with for your own rifle.

Cheers

At 13.5hr per hand guard plus 1.75hr per rail delete, even if blessed with a low rejection rate, I would have been running at like a 6-8 week turn around time during the peak of the orders.

Trust me, I did what I could to find a balance. I wasn't excited about the customer service and administration issues that would come with sitting on people's money for months, fielding constant requests for order status updates, people wanting to cancel etc. I considered making an order list and only asking for payment when the order was ready, but that's an even bigger nightmare.

The solution has always been that I need more printers.

To everyone waiting for feedback, I've added positive feedback for the first 30 people, the other half will get done once I process the last few orders this week.

Thanks for the patience.

So how about this. Take a “pre order “ list to gauge the interest. Take a non refundable deposit that would cover your expenses and if any one backs out you sell it to the next person in wait and that way you make more money. Time is money. Start with a list of 10 people and then shut down the pre order for a month while you make those orders. State a 30 days for delivery and no updates till they receive a tracking Ie patience. Your the only kid on the block and you seem to have a great side hussle going. Justify a second printer and adjust costs appropriately also justify this work to your partner by taking all the profits and going on a trip at the end of the year.!!!

Just find a balance.(edit just saw you say you tried finding that balance ) Like it or not your the dealer and we are the junkies lol. May I ask what the front handguard and delete rail sold for ? Also watched executive decision last night and I wasn’t kidding I want this gun based on your upgrades. Thank you for your time. It’s appreciated

Many thanks Walmart Greeter, for the parts as well as advice.
I have not shot it in this configuration yet, looking forward to it.

Stock is an EBay item. No modification to stock or receiver needed. It slid on tight and with a couple of smacks the plastic push pin it came with lined up perfectly. I'm waiting for the GSG 522 parts kit and HK metal push pins to arrive. Then it should look even closer to the original.

Zelly thanks for the kind words. baldabe thanks for the pics. I really appreciate the pics.

My wife looked at the numbers and said if I re-open orders I can get another printer. So keep an eye out.

Maybe with a second printer I can 3D print myself a new set of balls to replace the ones my wife keeps in her purse.
