I see that ebay sells a lot of digital scales that measure to .1 of a gram at pretty cheap prices. Has anyone bought one of these ? How do they hold up or are they pure junk ? My thought is that they may be handy to sort brass. I wouldn't use them for powder.

There are 7,000 grains in a pound. There are about 2.2 pounds in a kilogram.

So by my calculations a gram is about 15 grains. So a measure that will show 1.5 grain of powder as units ?? I would prefer something that actually goes into tenths of a grain for powder.
My opinion only though.

If you do a search on ebay for DIGITAL SCALES you will find some scasles for less than $10 that measure in grains.

For a loading bench it would be the better choice.

If thre is more than one to chose, look for the one with the biggest numbers. Small numbers will be a pain to read.

I am using one, and it is excellent. Make sure that batteries are always fresh.
I compared it with my RCBS mechanical scale and it is right on the money. They both give exact same reading. It was a steal for $ 21 CADs with shipping. And they actually goes into tenths of a grain for powder.

I have one called or made by NEVA and they work fine, precision is down to .2gr which is plenty precision for my loading. This particular scale has backlit LCD in cute blue which is easier on the eyes. Using it for a few months no problem.

i got the same thing-yours converts to all 3- grains, grams and something else depending on how you punch the buttons when you turn it on?

You gotta be careful. Most are capable of grams no problem but only a few are capable of grains. Even then, they may only go to closest grain +/-. You need to make sure its accurate to 1/10 grain if you want to use it for powder.

1 gram = 15.4323 grains

I just bought a new RCBS chargemaster combo (scale & powder thrower) off EBAY. Good price out of the states. Saved over $150 Canadian +gst with shipping.

For about $50-60 I would not care & buy locally but $150+ I do.

NEVA scale caution

t-star, & svt-40: I've been using the NEVA 50gm scale very successfully for quite a while so I ordered one for my friend and found a serious problem. It calibrated OK to the standard but a 50gr bullet it read 56gr, an 123gr bullet read 140gr which I witnessed; he had already loaded numerous rounds which had to be pulled. I sent the unit back and the replacement did the same thing which I again returned. The company could not understand that calibration is not the same as accuracy over the scale range. So I would advise you to check your scale with a known weight and hopefully have no issues. KFN

mine isn't the 50, but the 100 - the big brother and i only use it to check if there's a powder charge or not- i still use my old beam balance for measuring powder- as for bullets, i take what the manufacturer says they are,and when i have measured, they've been pretty close- 178-182 grains for a 180- and that could be air pressure, or a bunch of stuff- mine was only 30 bucks us and wasn't worth sending back if there was anything wrong with it- those 123 grain bullets sound like warsaw pact stuff, and i'd also verify with a beam balance before using- in other words, basically i use the beam for everything and the digital for checking only- the other thing i would point out is that when you calibrate, don't just stick the weight on the scale and zero- you have to remember your pan/container weighs something too ( my brass pan for the beam weighs a good 10 grains)
there are aslo very serious variations between brass manufacturers, and even cases will varyin weight in lot
you have 3 variables, bullets, cases, and powder charge, so you establish a high and low range for a known case lot and anything outside the norm, you pull

I bought one of the "digiWeigh" scales off ebay for 8.99. Says it is accurate to 0.01 gram or 0.1 grain. NO WAY! It's crap.
Bought one from "time_4_bidding" ebay name, for 21.99 rated at 0.001 grams or 0.01 grains. VERY ACCURATE! I load 38 special with around 3 grains with great results. He ships to Canada no problem

Good luck
Tim
