I just had a half ton drive down my drive ,through my yard past my house, into the back yard and weave through the snow fences and across my fields. No idea who they were but were not invited here for any reason. I'm a hunter and a property owner. It really pisses me off when such disrespect is shown. I followed them for a bit but they took off when they spotted me. Please people respect other peoples property. Hunting and trespassing don't mix.

Some people have a lot of nerve when trespassing. Ive had many confrontations with guys trespassing on a property where I was the only hunter with permission allowed to be there. They would blatantly lie that they had permission from the farmer, and would usually leave only after I got my phone out and called the landowner, or the police.
I'd usually take a picture of them and their vehicle for reference.

Install camera on the drive so you can provide evidence or a gate so they can't just drive on through. I live at a dead end so trespass is common if the gate is open, people think my driveway is a road otherwise

From what Ive been reading on rural crime out west I'd be wary of confronting anyone who's potentially armed and would avoid it if possible. Fences, gates and signage could go a long way in prevention, and a force equalizer would be on my mind. Legally speaking this is after you've contacted the police of course if it gets to that point

Only problem we have out west is the people who are trespassing and armed seem to have more rights than the landowner once police are involved. "Force equalizer" is not a good idea, rcmp are more likely to lock up the landowner for escalating the situation by being armed on their own property than the trespassers who are equally armed claiming ignorance of the trespassing.

Police take a long time to show up when called to rural properties , they know they can't count on their own backup arriving quickly if it gets serious

I would say that a lot of really rural people won’t bother calling the cops, they already know the rcmp will either drag their feet getting there when moments count or they won’t do squat to investigate property crime offences. Most rural living families will deal with it themselves and not say anything to anyone. What are criminals going to do, go to the police and file a missing persons report for someone that’s already known to the local authorities? Ain’t gonna happen.

Better to fire up the bulldozer than arm yourself almost.

A driveway monitor that works for up to a mile is available on Amazon for less than $100.00

Some city folk really don't know any better. A gravel pit to them is just another shooting range.
And if there's trees around it, they're just uncut firewood, free for the taking.
No fence without signage? It's open to all.

Not just city folk.
Out here it's local kids who are bored with nothing better to do, go for drives where ever they feel like and don't care what's planted n your field.
At least once a year have a few acres destroyed because some bored kids decided to do some donuts in middle of it.

Even called the OPP have them on trail cams and nothing ever comes of it.
