Hey everyone, just looking for some opinions. If you could have either or for the same price would you rather have:

A) used sako a7 soft touch. Reported 100 rounds down the pipe, minor handling Mark's due to soft touch stock.

B) new tikka t3x

I'm leaning towards the tikka as it's lighter (and always fun to buy a "new" gun). The stock on the sako is a little nicer but I don'tliove that a fingernail can mark it up. Obviously can't go wrong with either choice but wondering what everyone else would do.

Thanks

Are they the same calibre? Have you had an opportunity to shoulder both? Do you trust the used seller who's telling you it's only had 100 shots through it?

I think for the money the T3x is a lot of gun for under a grand, I have 2 of them and love them. Very accurate, light but if I was buying a caliber larger than a 7mm Mag I would go with the Sako as I find the recoil of the Tikka fairly uncomfortable with the 300 Mags. Maybe it's me getting old.

You might want to try the Tikka replacement butt pad, they are made by Sims and most Tikka / Sako dealers should have them. I replaced the factory butt pads on all my Sako rifles, there is a noticeable difference on my 30-06. They are normally around $40, or were when I bought mine. They fit both the Tikka and Sako firearms.

I've had Sakos and Tikkas and prefer the Tikka action because the port is on the side of the action. With the Sako open top action I had ejection issues with brass hitting the scope windage turret and falling back into the action. I've had zero problems with Tikkas. Just my experience, otherwise both are great rifles.

My vote is the T3x, unless you never plan on upgrading a single part of the rifle. The Sako is a better rifle out of the box, but has comparatively weak aftermarket support if you ever want to upgrade something.

Everyone makes aftermarket stocks, chassis, DBMs etc for the T3X. Some companies now offer pre-fit barrels for the T3X, which could save money down the road.

May not mean anything to most, but the factory mags for both rifles don't allow for long COALs if you want to run heavies in a magnum (or long 223 rounds). There are lots of AICS DBM options for the Tikka, but literally zero for long action A7s. With the owner of CDI having passed away recently, there may be no DBM options of any kind for any A7.

As for recoil pads, the limbsaver #10011 for a Tikka will bolt onto an A7, but the fit isn't perfect (at least it wasn't for my roughtech).

I do like the soft touch stock as its grippy in cold and wet weather. I also like that you can unload the Sako with the safety on (not 100% sure you cant with a T3X, you cant with a T3).

I have a sako A7 .308 that's great, Had many Tikkas but have currently sold them all and upgraded to Sako 85 or 75.

The T3x isn't what the T3 was and Tikkas are budget Sakos.

Do with that information what you will.

Pretty sure the T3x is exactly what the T3 was, albeit with several improvements that were seen as shortcomings of the T3. Both a great guns.

I recently purchased a brand new Tikka T3x Lite .30-06. Stainless Barrel with synthetic stock.

With Nikon Prostaff 2.5-10x42 scope. So far it’s been fantastic.

Very accurate right out of the box.

I may add a Limbsaver recoil pad as I am running out of lies to feed the wife when she asks about the bruises.

Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the Sako as I’ve never fired that gun.

But I can say it’s quite nice knowing for certain my gun hasn’t been through any abuse or damage.

This way I only have myself to blame for the crappy shooting.
