Most consistent 105 gr plus 6mm bullet?

Wondering what people have found to be the most consistent heavy 6mm bullet? Looking for the 6mm equivalent of the 185 Juggernaut. Not the highest BC, but the most consistent performance, with the least amount of regular tuning over the life of the barrel.

Berger 105gr Hunting VLD... the bullet that put Berger on the map. And no, they don't need to be jammed to work.

Sierra 107gr MK... ole reliable set 10 to 15 thou off the lands.

What are you running for a case?

What speed do you want to reach or are using?

How far are you trying to reach?

Back to the 6x47L. Shooting the old non-RBT DTACs in it, but I will run out soon. They're incredibly consistent for me. 2900+ with any heavy 6mm will get the job done.
 
I haven't bothered to try the new gen heavies like the Sierra and Berger... but I do get mixed reviews either way. The old DTACs certainly have a strong reputation... and maybe David will go back to the orig design?????

Barnes and Nosler are putting out new options... again, no first hand experience.

The Berger 105gr Hybrid is a perennial fave.

I have moved to other pastures and happy with my choice.

If consistency was the #1 goal, I would be looking at the smaller custom bullet shops such as Vapor Trail bullets and Barts Bullets that have been doing incredibly well in the benchrest world.

Otherwise, as Jerry points out, it's really hard to go wrong with 105 Berger Hybrids.
 
the most accurate bullet Matrix Bullets used to make was the 105 grain 6mm, might be worth an email to Steve the new owner to get a sample pack
 
I got some 109 Hybrid samples at the PRS Finale, so I'll probably give those a go. They're starting to show up at online retailers now.
 
At this point I don't have a place where I can true my dope past ~500 and that really killed me in the two matches I shot this year since I was shooting new lot of bullets. I'll take consistency and repeat-ability over BC. Probably going to try the Berger 108 BT as well since I hear it's the 6mm equivalent of the 185 Juggernaut the FTR guys love so much.

I am finding that with all of their bullets, one lot of VLD hunters was 58 thou longer then the lot i had just finished using, not only was the length different in the OAL of the bullet but the base to ogive, their explanation was no 2 dies make the same shaped bullet and the newer lot was made with new dies that stretched the bullet more.....okay i'll buy that for the OAL but not the base to ogive as that is set by the shape in the swage die

The only consistent bullets I have found from Berger are all under 90 grains, very little deviation from lot to lot, and a good reason I may just swap back to Sierra for anything over 100
 
Lots of guys can't get them to shoot, apparently, but I've found the Sierra 110 gr Match Kings to be very consistent in 4 different barrels. 0.317 G7 BC has been good out to 1600 yards at speeds from 2950-3150. Gonna try some 115gr RDFs this winter and maybe switch over to those but only because of cost/availability.

the 185J's were certainly a great bullet but that is very old news now. most will be running a 200gr new gen bullet

The only real way to keep ballistic consistency is to buy enough of each component to burn out that barrel. Bullet dies wear out and change.. variations in jacket material can affect how bullets are formed.

Some brands continue to incrementally modify the bullet shape to optimise various parameters... but they keep the name the same.

Truing can be a royal PITA for many shooters due to facilities so best to keep consistent once you have figured it out.... and it is a great feeling to not have to worry about supply chain when going into your match season.

The Berger tech recommended the 105 Hybrid for my 6br with 8 twist Krieger. I probably tried 30 seating depths from jam to .070" off. Every time it looked like a good load, it would not duplicate the group. We shot a 500 meter benchrest match in June and it would cluster 4 tight and a random flyer doubling the group size. I read an article on load trouble shooting that said time to try a different bullet. My shooting buddy who holds the range records for highest score aggregate and smallest group aggregate (5 shots on 5 targets) practically fell into his load of 107 Sierra jammed and the popular internet load of XX.X grains Varget. Maybe the Hybrid is consistent in weight and measurement but maybe this particular barrel has other preferences. I'm going to try the Berger 105 VLD for starters. Maybe the Berger 108 and Sierra 107.
