I just bought a used one and wanted to share what a great gun it is. It was too cold to fool around with paper targets (I'll save that for indoors) so I took it for granted the previous owner has it decently sighted in. I shot a few cylinders of my 38 spl target loads, and it performed alright. I then switched to the 9mm cylinder and loaded it with UMC 115 gr bulk ammo and it shot right to point of aim. I could easily do 6/6 on the 25 yard steel plates, and was making most hits off hand shooting at a 50 yard smaller plate. That's about the most I could expect for shooting off hand. At 25 cents a shot, its hardly worth the bother of reloading 9mm, so that is one of the reasons I wanted this gun. I think I will be pretty happy with it. I doubt it will win any bullseye competition, but for practical accuracy, its more than up to the task. And, its something completely different from my auto's and double action revolvers. There are some other great options in the convertible Blackhawks, such as 45 acp/ 45LC and 40S&W / 10mm.

Most spent cases were easy to eject, although the odd one was tight and needed some extra force. Even at that, shooting outdoors on a cold windy day, it was easier to load and unload than mags on a auto. I find pressing the cartridges into a mag when its minus something and windy, the thumb gets frozen pretty quickly. Perhaps time to look for a speed loader for my C Shadow 2 mags.

I am always on the look out for Blackhawks. I friend of mine offered me a 357 and I said no. A couple of weeks later at a shoot I noticed he had a second cylinder with his BH. He says ya that’s the one I tried selling you. He didn’t say it came with a 9 cylinder. I already knew the price and said sold. I enjoy shooting 9 out of a revolver for some reason.

I also like the blackhawks, especially in .357/9mm. It is an all around fun shooter with a choice of 3 different cartridges to shoot. Then handloading for it takes this gun up a notch to suit what you want out of it. What a versatile gun indeed!
Also have another BH in 45c/acp which is fun, but I believe the convertible .357 is a fantastic gun.:)

Enjoy your new shooter....

Any idea why some cases are easy to extract and others stiff? That was with the 9mm factory loads. The cylinder bores appeared spotless.

I suspect you may have some cylinders tighter than the others. My cylinder throats varied. on my GP-100. All were tighter than necessary. I had the throats all sized .358. I did not touch the balance of the cylinder on any of them. Rugers are great guns but they often need some TLC.

Take Care

I'll bring a tire crayon with me next time and mark the cylinder bores that are seemingly tight, and see if they always remain the ones that are hardest to eject the spent cases. That might shed some light on the cause. If it moves around, then its not the bores, its the ammo.
