Wondering what you Model 70 people think this would be worth ? I dont have pics sorry ! Its in very nice shape and comes with a good scope, 2 boxes of reloads 2 boxes brass and rcbs 2 die set. It also has the dropping floor plate. I know without picks no one can really put a value on it but a rough guess at it would be great if possible. I know the 225 is a bit of a rare rifle and with the heavy barrel I would think should put the price a little higher.
Thanks !

Pics are not that important if you can discribe condition. Does it look like new ? does it show bluing loss and so on . We will rate it as very good . NRA $600-$1000 all depends on who is buying .just found a 90%one that sold on auction for $865 . Sold for not asking price , asking price does not dictate value .

The 1965 Model 70 is the perfect example of why the Pre-64 rifles are comparatively valuable. It has every feature which gave the 1964 to 1968 Model 70's the aura of despicability. Cheap stock with impressed checkering. Cast aluminum where they used steel before. Poor fit and finish. On the bright side, the barrels are very good and accuracy is usually great. The rifle as described is pretty rare which is worth something and might even make up for the lack of quality. The 225 is an unusual cartridge which performs about halfway between the 223 and the 22-250.

I like the old .225 cartridge, I built a couple break actions in .225... think I still have dies and brass in my shop.

I have a Cooey 710 in 225 as well and enough ammo to last a couple lifetimes and probly 1000 brass as well lol. Kinda helps when I know people that worked at Winchester in Cobourg and bought ammo. The M70 in question is in really nice shape or I wouldn't have put a depo on it. Still have Xmas shopping to do or I would've brought it home with me so will have to wait till the new yr to finish paying for it and pick it up

It was beyond strange that Winchester took the trouble to introduce the 225 when Winchester had a history with the 220 Swift but yeah, many opted to go with the better-performing, easier to work with, 22-250.
I still remember going to the Sportsmans Show, in Calgary, in 1964 and seeing the "New" Model 70. Now, by 1963, the Model 70 was looking pretty sad anyway with a small amount of checkering which looked to have been done by a wino with a knife and fork and flaws in both wood and metal but it was still a long step up from the model which followed it. These post 64 Model 70's are fairly rare because they didn't sell many but they didn't sell many for a reason; they were ugly. This is one case where in my opinion, rarity just doesn't equal value.

I would be interested in purchasing any Model 70 in .225. Yes, they have their problems and the stock to barrel fit does look like a canoe route, but the ones I have owned shot very well.

Because I had a lot of components and dies, plus several boxes of factory 225 Winchester ammo, I
Had Dennis [Guntech] chamber and fit a takeoff 40X barrel on a Savage M11 action I had laying about.
It is very, very accurate, and does not give up much to the 22-250 in velocity.

It is my coyote killer, and crow buster. Does a great job with the 50 Ballistic tip and VV N140, or the
Sierra 52 grain HP with N540. It's a bit of an orphan, but I really like it. Dave.

I had excellent accuracy with the 53 VM, but I just had too many .22 centerfire rifles and something had to go. The .225 was a casualty, still shooting .222, .223, .22/250, .22 PPC, .220 Swift and .22 TTH

I recently picked up a Cooey/Winchester Model 71 in 225 Winchester. Serial 4976, beautiful Walnut, 90% overall condition. It does have alloy trigger guard, a funky little safety on right side of receiver. Overall it’s a very pretty rifle. Several gun nuts have helped me amass dies, brass, and even ammo, only thing missing is a #11 RCBS shell holder. I’ll post again when I get it rescoped and tuned. Thanks to all the CGN members who helped me with this project. Respectfully Jim

That is a nice rifle, Jim... enjoy shooting and tuning... I will take a look around to see if I have an extra shellholder... pretty sure I do... PM your mailing address.
